jasperaliceuk
Well, we now have the Cube and WIR which although only put up last Thursday is now going to have the extension! So we went to buy some new chickens today and picked three more to go with our Pepperpot and Gingernut Ranger. Can't show pics right now as we put the in the Cube House and they are all hunkered down not wanting to go anywhere. We bought a Bluebelle, a Skyline and a Silver Link. So hard trying to make the choice. We had the older ones in the WIR - I didn't want to put them in the new Cube as I wanted this initially for the new girls own space. They are separated but I think the other two are being a bit too intimidating. They are just staring at the Cube house, making weird noises. They've not seen the new ones yet so that's understandable. So we've just shifted them back to the Go until the new ones feel comfortable enough to come out. We'll then play it from there. I do hope they will all eventually get along! Sue
Plum
Congratulations on your new girls and like you I ordered the extension within a few days. Just give them time and take introductions slowly and you'll soon have a happy flock. Let us know how it goes.
jasperaliceuk
Three hours of turning their back on us and the Bluebelle decided to brave the ladder when I put a few bits of corn on the edge. She stayed on her tod for an hour or so. After a piece of spinach dangled in the run brought out the Silver Link, the Skyline followed, not wanting to be left alone. So glad they came out as they weren't eating or drinking. I was worried about how they would negotiate the ladder but as dusk fell they all popped back in the house so I'm happy on that score. They can hear and see the other two across the garden. Sue
jasperaliceuk
Here they are The Threesome Rose - Silver Link Ace - Heritage Skyline Polly - Bluebelle - she was bullied in the shed and has lost all her tail feathers bar one - hence my daughter figured she needed to be rescued. Sweet how she seems to be the confident one now with now others to harass her. The poultry farm we went to said for some reason it has been the busiest weekend they had ever had and the chickens were quite stressed from constantly having her in the run catching the chosen one which had been bought so she was glad she was getting some quiet days, for their sake not hers! They had a gaggle of geese which had ripped up her daughter's scarecrow she had just made and they really made a huge racket at my husband. A very sweet farm and all looked well cared for. They are quite tentative though negotiating the ladder. Have just had the Skyline making quiet a racket - she seems the nervier of them. Have been trying to tempt them with some mealworms but not confident enough to take from me yet. Sue

jasperaliceuk
Got my clicker out this afternoon - with a bit of patience had the Bluebelle and Silver Link taking mealworms. The Skyline is still a bit skittish. When I went out a little while later just the Silver Link was in the run - the other two put themselves to bed - I swear she was waiting for some more treats! Have been clicker training Mimi, one of the older chickens. Have been getting her to target one colour cup, given a choice of two colours. She picked it up really quickly.
