patsylabrador
There are some people on Omlet forum who have relatives & friends in Afghanistan & I just wanted to say that they're not forgotten. Thank goodness the news from there has been quiet but, I know the forces out there are still fighting daily and some living in very basic compounds. I do get frustrated that our news media seem more interested in TV programmes & celebs than what our forces are doing day in, day out. I always found it heartening to know the lads & lasses out there weren't forgotten, and to know that this forum is supportive to them and their relatives when it was needed. I think about them every day.
Couperwife
I agree, always in our thoughts and prayers our school is just organising to send some shoe boxes of nice things out. cathy x
Seagazer
They're not far from my thoughts - a couple of ES's friends have joined up. He showed me photos of one of them last night holding a big gun, it just doesn't seem right to see them like that. I just they stay safe. Purplemaniacs
I too think about them and their families. DD's boyfriend has served out there and some of the children at school have dads out there or have been out there. We all owe a great deal to them. keyhole kate
I know we both have sons currently deployed in Afghan but like me you probably know and hear a lot more first hand what being in Afghan is really like none of which would ever be allowed to be shown to the public Daily life there is nothing like it is portrayed on TV or by the celebs the daily life and living conditions our military face every day is hard and relentless. I am very proud of all our military as is I believe the majority of our country. I just wish our past, current and succesive governments would recognise there value worth and sacrifice that both they and there dependants make and reward them with accordingly as well as showing them the respect they so deserve. patsylabrador
Hi Keyhole Kate, I agree with what you say so much but I don't want to mislead you. ES is not there now, in fact he left the army last year, MS has just been recruited and starting training this week. I try to always bear in mind how support from people helps. I remembered often waking up suddenly at night with a cold feeling in my belly wondering how he was. I then wondered if anyone on Omlet was in need of some supportive words. I use the avatar of my boy simply because its a picture I like. I sometimes feel as though we're back in WW1, with all the media we have now, a lot can be hidden still like then. Good luck to your chap!

Angie
I have many friends out there, OH will be home for Christmas this year , he promised he was coming home thats why i've booked to eat out christmas day, then he will be in another nearby country . The guys are in my prayers daily but to be very honest ....i don't watch the news too much or read the papers so i am always out of sync with what is going on , it is how we cope. Doing the daily living thing.
