Guest
I am bottling my vodka tonight. I hope it tastes as good as it looks. Silly question but from adding the sugar and water to it do you then have to leave it or can you drink it straight away Not that I am eager or anything
Charlottechicken
Yes, Debs, but I usually leave it a couple of weeks to settle. It is nice when it is still cloudy too! Don't drink it all

craftyhunnypie
I felt inspired to make some liqueurs this afternoon. I've bought plums, damsons & some Rhubarb. I've looked in my drinks store & I've only got a bottle of gin in at the moment. ANy recipes you know of using gin instead of vodka? I've looked on that site you mentioned - it's fab! I want to make apricot brandy too. But if you or anyone could help me out on recipes for my fruits , that'd be great! Thanks Emma.x
Christian
Hi Crafty! How about damson gin?? Prick the damsons a couplke of times, put in a large jar, cover with sugar, then top up with gin. leave somewhere dark for a few months and enjoy! I'm sure someone on here had a recipe for rhubarb schnapps?
craftyhunnypie
OoOoo thanks Damson Gin it is then! Do I just prick the damsons? Or do I stone them first? Hmmm do they actually have stones? Thanks Emma.
Christian
Yes they do. If you stone then, then soak them in the gin, you could make something with the fruit when the gin is ready! Damson gin jam!! If not, then just prick them a couple of times to get the juices flowing.......
craftyhunnypie
One lot of damson gin will be ready for father in law for xmas now! I don't actually like gin - I prefer Vodka, so I'll be popping the co-op later for a couple of bottles for plum & rhubarb liqueurs!!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Emma.x
Cinnamon
Am sitting here with a little snifter of my Raspberry Vodka. 'Tis very lovely over ice I am making Crab Apple Vodka this week (the checkout boy at Tesco nods wisely whenever I turn up at the till with 3 more bottles of Value Vodka  )
The Dogmother
You'd probably need lots of sugar with that oen Sarah - they're rather tart. Try adding a spice too - a cinnamon stick would be very appropriate
Cinnamon
Thanks - I will bung a cinnamon stick in
Charlottechicken
the checkout boy at Tesco nods wisely whenever I turn up at the till with 3 more bottles of Value Vodka I know how you feel I try and space my spirit buying out as the Tesco I go to is right near work and it is not unusual to meet colleagues in there. Damson gin is the forerunner of sloe gin according to a little Wyre Forest cookbook I have, and it is made with 3lb of damsons, 3lb sugar, and a big bottle of gin! The Dogmother
Phil went past Ikea yesterday so I asked him to get me a couple more of their excellent kilner jars and stoppered bottles - they're so cheap it'd be rude not to.
Cinnamon
I wish we were nearer to Ikea (or Brian went past it sometimes ).....it has just cost me heaps to stock up from Lakeland again
The Dogmother
We're in the middle of 3 IKEAs (not wanting to gloat). Those jars and bottles are fantastic and half the price of anywhere else.
Cinnamon
We are not too far from one, but its a horrible drive & is always so busy & stressful to visit. Apparantly they are maybe opening one in Reading
