craftyhunnypie
I'm afraid I have had to reprimand my hubby! For some reason he has come down with more hens disease. ..It's a very bad strain! He went & bid on some showgirl eggs on the famous auction site! He didn't win them, but got offered a second chance offer. So accepted & bought them! Naughty hubby! I'm picking them up on Wednesday - a nice drive out for me! Apparently the cockerel came 3rd in AOV rare breed class at the National on Saturday & the hen came 2nd in The Welsh show! Here's me thinking that my incubators were shut down for the Winter! Different here though, we can over winter the chicks - plus will only be about 10 days old at Xmas - awwww! Will have to keep an eye on this hubby of mine! Emma.x

Space Chick
Brilliant. He was a good looking lad at the National, I was admiring him
craftyhunnypie
Me lucky? Noooo. It's me that has to sort out the incys, disinfect them, keep check, candle the eggs, set up the brooder. It's me that can't help looking at the eggs every hour once pipped. It's me that whistles to the eggs so they wobble & respond. Hmmmm lucky? Let me think about that! Actually I love it all! Hubby is becoming a devil! p.s. Space Chick - thanks for letting me know that he's a good looking lad - that's reassuring! Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
Got the eggs! Seen the parent birds too & even the chicks! I have to admit, the chicks are the cutest things I have ever seen. God it was a long drive to get them. I also got lost there & back. On the return journey I ended up at New Quay. Don't even ask! On the way, I stopped off in Newcastle Emlyn. Lovely place - lots of nice little shops, but the best bit was I bought a glass & ceramic Rocking Rooster! So incubators need disinfecting tomorrow & they will go in tomorrow evening. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
The incys went on & eggs in last night. Using 2 Rcom minis - as seemed a bit daft to fire up the RCom 20 just for 6 eggs. Wish us luck for some show girls. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Shhhh don't tell hubby! I had a quick candle last night at 4 days gone. I usually wait until 8 days, but I wanted to just have a sneaky look. I'm pretty certain all 6 are developing. Definitely 5! No movement from the peeps as yet, just little blobs, but definite spider veins seen extremely clearly! Will be great to candle on Friday with hubby & see how they have changed. Shh don't tell him I've already candled. Naughty me! Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Blimey - a week today these are due to hatch. 21 days at approximately 9pm! That went quick. I am presuming that showgirls will hatch around the normal 21 days mark & not come early like pekins sometimes do. Quite excited to see what colours we get. Praying for majority of whites. Everyone knows how I hate to waste a broody, so Tiger is sat on 6 bantam frizzles due on Christmas Day I candled tonight and all six are fertile Not bad for Ebay eggs through the post! craftyhunnypie
I'm sooo excited. Have seen 3 out of the 5 eggs wiggling. Number 4 is really giving it some welly. I'm most excited about what colours I'll get, as the eggs are from a pen of blue splash, black, partridge, gold & white. I am so hoping for a classic white one. Some of the adult birds are bare necked & some have bibs. Little E.T's coming soon. Watch this space!! Emma.x
