memphisto
Hi Sam Cheshire Poultry has Silkies advertised on their website, I am not sure if he still has any now though. I spoke at length to Steve earlier in the year and he's really helpful and knowledgeable, so definitely worth an ask. There is also one for sale listed in Flintshire, if that is any good? Just looking through Practical Poultry, Halghton Holdings, I think he's on the Whitchurch to Overton Rd in Wrexham, his site says he has Silkies http://www.halghtonholdings.co.uk/chickens_for_pets.html
Sammiboo
I tried CP but they dont have any ready and was told i could be put on The list for a deposit. This is the lady i am getting the girls from http://www.farmingads.co.uk/farming-and-livestock-chickens-silkie/region-w-uk-eastern-cambridgeshire-peterborough/Silkiesforsalefree-15194333.html?impression=normal_impression I like the youtube vid
Chortle Chook
So you're going for it Sammiboo - good on you What colours do you think you'll come back with. From that video I could see black, white and gold at least.
Sammiboo
Yes its going to be hetic tomorrow, its all been a bit of a rush lol I definately want a white one, they have partridge and gold so want to have a look at those. Im getting the eglu tomorrow (post chicken collection) from the lovely memphisto so pictures will be up tomorrow, I think the lady is in a panic now cos i said i'll be over tomorrow - she seems quite excited to show me all her flock ooo hot of the press, she has just called me to confrim the colours
Chortle Chook
I feel excited for you The white are so pretty (though my Doodle can make herself propper grey with a good dust bath - read mud bath). I also love the gold ones. Can't wait to see tomorrow what you get, even though I know I'll be very
Sammiboo
TBH i am quite mixed about it all. I am excited about getting new chickens but i dont know how practical i am being
Chortle Chook
I know that feeling of being anxious one is being foolish and over-hasty, but at the same time not quite being able to stop oneself, but you have really given it quite a bit of thought. I'm sure you'll love the fluffkins and if, by chance, you don't and find it all too much, they won't be hard to re-home as so many people like Silkies
Kazzy73
That video was sooooo sweet ,love the gold ones and the chicks are so cute very very as I want some smaller girls to keep my pekin company as the frizzles are getting quite big.Have a great day picking your new girls cant wait for the piccys. Sammiboo
Phew what a day that has been! I was out the door by just after 6am and headed for my 3 hour journey to peterborough. I got there approx 9.30am which i thought wasnt bad going really. When i got there christine was very welcoming and was offered coffee on arrival. I was given the grand tour of her estate and i think she must have had about 400 silkies of all ages and colours She loves her hens, she keeps them as a hobby rather than a buisness, they all are very happy and spoilt chickens, under almost every bush there would be a huddle of chooks. it was great!! She had selected 10 and kept them confined of which she thought I would like. It was a tough decision i tell you. I finally made my choice and not long after i was on my way. At this point i need to point out that i didnt have a coop for them to go in Hoping my plan would come together. I had planned to meet memphisto on the way back to get the classic, so everything was a little close for comfort and couldnt afford anything to go wrong. Not the best plan to get the chickens and THEN get their house.... Anyway all worked out well, met the lovely memphisto and she had a sneeky peek of the babies I wanted to say a big thank you to Iona, who brought the eglu from st asaph all the way to shrewsbury, not sure i would be sitting here tonight with a coffee typimg this while my garden has silkie chickens cosy asleep in a eglu Once i got home i checked the new girls were ok, i showed agnes her new friends (the chicken that was seriously bullied) and she pecked at them i took the girls outside in the back garden and let them run around, much to the disgust of the other girls in cube heres the vid of them in the garden - you can hear the other girls having a tantrum http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?v=10150379798602914&set=vb.504287913&type=2&theater I need to give them names so you will have to forgive their temporary ones this is pumpkin head - she is very pretty, has a gold head and partridge body having a good rummage black one aka bobble head (has a large pom pom) the other girls look giants in comparison Pumkin head and bobble head Putting the eglu together "assisted" by my lovely girls was somewhat interesting..... Bobble head again with whitey pumkin head - lovely colours All three happy chicks ethel having a nosey Roof / lid on Bunty decides she HAS to go inside (please excuse the yoghurt face ) Obviously a good spot! Girls have decided to pile in the run (incomplete - i am actually trying to fit it together) Ethel again!! Sorry about the quality of pictures I was still putting it together in the dark!! I will update over the weekend when i get to spend some proper time with everyone
docsquid
They are all gorgeous girls. The gold partridge silkie is gorgeous. They are all gorgeous. I love silkies too. It sounds like you and your chooks have had a big day. Congratulations!
mollyripkim
They are sooo beautiful, love seeing the black and white together, your black silkie is a lovely dark black if you know what I mean. I am so but please for you too, sounds like you had a busy but happy day. Cheaky chook - I would love a white silkie boy too but think it would be a step too far for my neighbours. I just dream of winning the lotto!
memphisto
Sam, it was a pleasure to meet you and your girls today, they are very, very beautiful and look like they are enjoying life at home. Hope getting the Eglu out of the car wasn't too much like the Krypton Factor it was getting it in! Looking forward to more pictures soon
LolaLayla
They are lovely and they seem quite at home already I am hoping to get mine next year. There are none about here at the moment
Sammiboo
thanks for all your comments guys will get better pics up at the weekend! Iona - it wasnt that bad actually, i though the way squeezed into the back of my car it would never come out but it was far easier to get the thing out than it was to get in I am sure the girls are going to be happy in the eglu, considering they are free range, as soon as i put them in the run (still building) and shone the touch towards the door, they went in no probs
Kazzy73
Oh they are gooorgus, they look so diddy compared to your other girls.Loved the video with your other girls throwing a tantrum, have a fun weekend with your new girls cant wait to see more piccys
MedusA
What cute Silkies (and the other girls are cute too). Chickens are sooooo helpful, aren't they? I'm intrigued as to what their new names will be, bless them
Chortle Chook
I kept looking and looking and somehow missed this yesterday. What lovely girls you have got - sooo pretty and they do look sweet altogether. Ethel is one pretty lady too
Sammiboo
thank you! If the weather is nice i will get better pics, think the pictures were a bit rubbish cos the light was going. I still have no idea what to call them. All my other girls have old dears names but the silkies dont suit them. I have considered beyonce and monica for the black one britney, Gaga(lady) pheobe for the white one, and sian and lulu for the ginger/partridge one. I also like the name suzie. The other girls were far easier to name Edit: i am welcome to suggessions Edited November 25, 2011 by Guest
