Cat innoculations

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping someone might be able to advise me.

We rehomed a cat last October, who was given her booster innoculations before we got her. She would have been due the booster at the end of October, but neither the vet we have registered her with, or the vet that she was registered with have sent reminders that she needs to go again.

I seem to remember reading somewhere recently that the advice has changed, and they only need the boosters every three years.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

My understanding is you can go up to a couple of months overdue then have the booster. If your cat is insured you should get the boosters done as your insurance may be void. My cats, up untill today have always been insured and I usually went a month over the due date. However if your cat is getting older and is uninsured it is healthier to stop the vacninations as it can do more harm than good. Especially if your cat is on long term anitibitics which repress the imune system or they are prone to infection and need regular antibiotics. I had a cat who was on chemo and he never had his boosters as it could have been fatel. He lived 6 years after his cancer was diagnosed. Now I was told this by my vet a few years ago. My pet insurance is just up for renewel and I bit the bullet and cancelled it. As both cats are over 10 I will also stop the boosters. I just hope I have made the right choice.

THey are still every year. All my cats are now registered with our local Vets4pets. They have q scheme where you pay £99 (sometimes £49 on offer) and that pays for their vaccinations for the rest of their lives. My local practice is really nice, and we see the same vet each time. They even come to the house to do the annual vaccinations and check ups as I now have four cats so taking them all would be a trial....I just pay £40 for the home visit once a year.
