keyhole kate
Going off on a bit of a tangent do breeders borrow birds for breeding? The way dog owners do I have a lovely little cinnamon frizzle girl with Unfeathered legs and feathers that all curl forward which by all accounts is a good description of a pure frizzle. Similarly do breeders borrow cockerels to introduce new blood lines without actually keeping the bird I just ran this by OH he said I need to get out more
Griffin
I have a cockerel owning friend who said some of my girls are more than welcome to weeks 'holiday' Sun, sand, sangria....... that kind of thing
Redwing
I've lent a few of mine out, they go for a couple of weeks at a time usually but some have gone for longer, it benefits someone who cant have a cockerel and I dont have to feed them or listen to their crowing if they arent here Be aware though that a frizzle to frizzle mating will produce some chicks that are overfrizzled who can lose feathers easily but its hard to find Frizzles at the best of times let alone a cockerel with flat feathers Another option would be for your hen to visit a cockerel at his home, that way you dont get the crowing, she should lay fertile eggs for at least 10 days after leaving him and possibly for up to 4 weeks
keyhole kate
Thanks for your responses lol I particlarly like the idea of sending her off on a jolly holiday to meet a beau she is such a little character I must post some pics of her on the forum she is very pretty with gingery brown feathers with little black tips to them rather than one solid colour. She was given to me and decribed as cinnamon but I have no idea if this is correct. You have certainly given me something to consider
craftyhunnypie
Perhaps Omlet should start a hen & cockerel lonely hearts section. Awww. Little Cinnamon hen (frizzle) would love to meet handsome cockerel. Emma.x
Griffin
Be aware though that a frizzle to frizzle mating will produce some chicks that are overfrizzled who can lose feathers easily but its hard to find Frizzles at the best of times let alone a cockerel with flat feathers Watch this space, I think 3 of my 5 Frizzle chicks are flat feathered! Lewis
As Redwing says, I borrowed Quigley a frizzle cockerel for a couple months last summer to come and make babies with my girls We got 5 chicks, none frizzle, and then he went back - were tempted to keep him or one of his sons 'cos he only crowed a couple times in the few months and that was when I took Gerald my drake to work for him to make babies Be interested to see the Cinnamon colour - is she paler than Red? I have a pekin sold as Red Pyle which I think was made up!

craftyhunnypie
Got a feeling I've got 3 showgirl girls - I too wanted a cockerel! Only time will tell! I've got two pale reddish girly frizzles. I tend to call them buff, so would also be interested in seeing the Cinnamon colour. Emma.x
Parsley
I have "booked" a beautiful Sulmtaler boy to come and stay with my two girls when it warms up a bit. Not sure whether to lay on candles and soft music
Lewis
Was looking at the Sulmtaler at The National - prefer the girls to the boys! Have seen 2 Pekin cockerels I want to borrow one of over the summer to visit my pekin girls (one is flat and the other is frizzle!) Think Cilla may be going there to visit a silkie cockerel and have some babies of her own too
Mum
... Another option would be for your hen to visit a cockerel at his home, that way you dont get the crowing, she should lay fertile eggs for at least 10 days after leaving him and possibly for up to 4 weeks I never knew that! I got some new-to-me girls last Sunday (one is a known "escaper") and when I opened one of her lovely eggs today, I thought, "I'm sure that is a fertilised egg" then I though it couldn't possibly be because it was laid yesterday and she's been here since Sunday. If any of my girls go broody in the next week or two, I'm going to put some of those eggs under her (if I haven't gobbled them all up by then ) Thank you for that
