The Peak District weekend with dog *Edit - We're Back!

Recommended Posts

Probably not much help as I can't remember where exactly this was, but we took out lurcher to the Peak District several times and found a place known as "the lurcher pub" (for meals/drinks rather than accommodation) - it was not open all the time, but the owners had loads of lurchers.

Had a quick google search and think this may be it:

Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires, Tideswell, Derbyshire SK17 8RW (01298 872268).

A couple of responses from lurcher folk who live in the peaks....

There are plenty of B & B’s and lovely country Inn’s in Hope Valley. In terms of walking, you have Derwent Waters, Ladybower Reservoir, Padley Gorge and breathtaking walks around Stanage Edge. This whole area has stunning scenery everywhere . You are not too far from Chatsworth and Bakewell which is about 20 min drive away. :D

The Peak District is such an amazing place your friends will be spoilt for choice in just one w/e :D

It depends whereabouts they're intending to stay really, but if they haven't booked yet then probably something central like Chatsworth would be their best bet so they have easy access to Bakewell, Ladybower res, Stanage, Hathersage, Eyam, Monsall head etc etc.

North is the dark peak area and south is the White peaks for mapping purposes.

They'll have a brill time where ever they decide :D

There are a couple of others that I am waiting for....

Biggin Hall is wonderful, very dog friendly, and there is a lovely walk from the door taking in Wolfscote and Biggin Dale.

Have you stayed at Biggin Hall Snowy? I sent them an email ages ago and they didn't get back to me. I phoned them this evening and no one could help me until the Receptionist gets back tomorrow. I have the slight tinkling of alarm bells :anxious: I can picture one of those hotels of the telly :anxious:

I have stayed there, it is owned and run by a chap who does not appear to be too commercially minded. Having said that, the food is wonderful (it tends to be a set menu and everyone is served at the same time!), the rooms are comfortable, everyone gathers by the huge log fire in the lounge before dinner and an apperitif is served, they do packed lunches. The geese wander about in font of your bedroom window to torment the dogs :lol: We were there a year ago in November and it was fine then. The first time we went, we sat and chatted to Keith Chegwin who was in the area for a show

Bakewell is good for that, nice little town leading out onto some lovely walks. I remember there being a B&B

just outside. Our dogs have a mobile kennel but they dog take well behaved dogs by arrangement.

Found it!

Just a little update to say that we had a lovely weekend away in the Peaks. Stayed at Castle Cliffe as recommended and it was perfect for our purposes. We had some lovely walks and meals out very close by. The weekend was so sunny it made everywhere look particularly stunning.
