jackian
We all know about pecking order but is it the top chick that goes to bed last or first ? I have been watching my girls go to bed ..as you do . Little Rosie my young girl bottom of the order goes first every time , in the first coup . Then goes Clover Poppy and the last to go in every night is Eva my fairly new and she wanders and strolls around for at least 15 minutes before she goes in with the other 2 girls in the second coup ... poor Rosie sleeps on her own ..At least Rosie has no one else in with her that snores , nicks the duvet or poos in the nest box But I would like to know if there is an order of things. lindafw
Watching my girls my tiny Polish bantum goes in...then they have some sort of order with they hybrids going in last followed by top bully dorking..then the two boys go in with my big buff orp cockerel planting himself half out of the door so no one can get past him to the girls. Suspect aracana boy takes himself to the on his own...even when the nest box on the is open so he can slip in. If I put him in he goes in with the girls no prob and snuggles down...I think he has been sent to coventry and they are snubbing him
mabelandflosmum
My top chicken always goes to bed first, followed by the next in line after a bit of a wait, and then the bottom girl who always has a last minute snack while the other 2 are out of the way! jennym
My top chook goes last, after a good few patrols up and down the length of the run Bottom girl goes first, then middle then top. Then in the morning they line upto come out in pecking order. No idea if this is typical though as I'm still on my first three chooks. abwsco
Can't work it out in our houses at all. All I know is that there's always argy bargy and two try and get in first but still get attacked when the others get in. I seem to have permanent problems with the six lower order chickens which goes on all day
LolaLayla
The Silkies always go to bed in the at least 15 minutes before the other girls start lining up That's strange, my Silkies always are in their eglu before my Warrens settle in theirs. Do you think they think it is darker than it is because of their head gear Then Layla goes into their eglu first and sits in the nestbox followed about 10 mins later by Lola. I used to think that Layla was the boss but now I think it is Lola.
Mrs Potts
When Florence was boss, she used to chase the others in and go to bed last. When Hettie was boss, she used to go to bed first (choosing the nesting box) and make little crooning noises to the other two until the others joined her. Like us, hens all have different characters and aren't all the same. Mrs Potts
