chickencam
I had a very cheap hand mixer for about 15 years and when it finally packed up, we went throught several others in quick succession, Kenwood, Morphy Richards and another which I can't remember. When asked by my grandad what i would like for Christmas is 2010 I asked him and my uncle to buy us a Dualit mixer, because we decided that we had better buy some quality. We have a Dualit 6 slot toaster which we swear by and has worked well for 2.5 years and had heard good things about the company. My mixer stopped working today when i was beating some soft buttercream, the motor is running but the beaters either won't go round or clang together then get jammed. I have looked at the reviews on Amazon and it seem that it is a common problem which is down to the plastic gears. Has anyone else had this issue? I am just looking for my instruction booklet which of course I can't find to see how long the guarantee was.
kinsk
Mine was a wedding present so haven't even had it a year yet. I'll still have my instruction book handy if you want me to check the guarantee details.
..lay a little egg for me
It's odd that the toasters are so good but their other items appear to be less well made if the reviews on Amazon are anything to go by. I have an ancient Kenwood that just keeps going on. I don't know if the modern ones are as good mind you.
chickencam
I found the guarantee and instructions in the box in the loft, it was only guaranteed for a year I have emailed Dualit, I don't expect anything really but nothing ventured and all that. lindafw
I have a pair of moulinex hair curlers...which I have had since I was 16!!! I don't use them much nowadays but god forbid they ever break
clucker1
I too am after a new electric hand whisk. I have had unfavourale experiences from Dualit on the toaster front. Have looked at the reviews of the Kenwood whisk which costs @£60 and comes in red, black and cream. Going to compare it with the dualit ones when it comes into the shop, the only difference so far is the dualit is slightly lighter. Does anyone have any recommendations.........my last one just died after 25 years, and that was a moulinex. I do quite a lot of baking, so I need it to work!!! Olly
I've got a cheapy Kenwood hand mixer which I've had at least seven years, it gets used regularly and I don't think it cost more than £20, if that.
TAJ
I have had my Dualit hand whisk for almost 2 years and never had a problem with it (or my toaster, coffee machine or Dualit kettle). I do hope they assist you. Tracy
chickencam
We love our toaster, although sometimes it would be handy to have 10 slots Although the first two slots get far more use than the rest. It was the talk of ED's 18th, her friends semmed very wowed by it's size It is by far the best one that we have had, toasts really evenly, crispy on the outside nice and fluffy in the middle
bluekarin
I'd love one of their toasters. I need a new hand whisk as mine is a cheapy from Sainsburys. About £20 I think. It still works, just don't have enough guts to mix sometimes. I was almost going to get a Dualit one, but would be interested to hear how you get on with yours. chickencam
Had a reply back today saying that they are unrepairable and asking for the serial number and receipt. I haven't got the receipt because my grandad bought it and I don't want to tell him that it has packed up. I have replied so let's see what I get back
bluekarin
I really hope they come back with something good. I did a bit of research into mixers today, and have found the one I want http://www.johnlewis.com/230587700/Product.aspx#BVRRWidgetID Sounds like it has the guts I was looking for
clucker1
bluekarin , that is the same mixer, my local kitchen supplier is getting in for me to look at, although their price is £60....I am just hoping it isn't too heavy.
bluekarin
Quite a few places online have it at £60. The ones at the JL price tend to be sold out, unsurprisingly. The only problem people have mentioned in reviews is it being heavy, but I don't have a problem with that. I look forward to hearing what you think of it. chickencam
If I get nowhere with Dualit I may look at the kmix, because the downsides of the Dualit are that it is very noisy and aprt from the low speed all of the other speeds seem very fast and not much difference between them. The kmix reviews seem to say that it is quiet and has good speed varaition.
chickencam
We had an email back yesterday saying that they could do nothing without a proof of purchase but offering me 34% off a new one if I bought it from them. My OH wasn't impressed because he had been reading the awful reviews everywhere and said that their offer was just their normal profit margain in sale to other retailers. He replied saying that having read the bad reviews the product obviously wasn't of merchantable quality. They have replied to that today offering us an ex-display model tested but not guatanteed which we have accepted, so they have our address and we will see what comes through, what's the betting this one will last for years? Upto now I have been quite pleased with the speed of their responses and if the ex-display mixer is ok I will be satisfied.
chickencam
Well the ex-display mixer arrived at 12 noon and I have made an all in one chocolate cake with it, it is in very clean condition and doesn't look like it has had much use, so I am pleased with the outcome to this. Just goes to show that sometimes complaining is worthwhile I don't like making a fuss, but my OH runs a small business and we understand how important good customer service is. I will send them an email to thank them for their response.
clucker1
bluekarin (and anyone else interested).....firstly THANK YOU bluekarin, I bought my Kenwood whisk online from John Lewis saving me £13 (yippee), didn't feel guilty doing the local retailer out of business as they charged me an absoute fortune for some other kitchen ware I recently purchased. The Kenwood, I am very pleased with, it certainly does the business......I LOVE watching it whisking. Plus it looks very neat on its stand on the work top (even OH ...not a cook!! is impressed.) Kenwood have done some research as the beaters are longer so really getting into the mixture. Today I made rhubarb and custard cake, absolutely delicious! Awww, you are very welcome I am now of course as I want one for myself I am glad it has lived up to its reviews. It is annoying that you can't get things in your local shops and have to buy them online. I always try, and waste hours trying to find something in town which I know I could find in minutes online. Here's to many more baking days
