amys garden
Hi everyone Our chooks are happilly settled in our garden though Flowie is still occasionally laying softies at the slightest change in her diet away from pellets Im starting to think maybe something really wrong with her I had to pick a dangling softie off her bottom the other day and wash her bum poor thing! Hazel also has something funny going on with her comb ! I think she's scratched it somehow it's got dark blotches spreading from her nose I've sprayed it with hen antiseptic Should I be worried? Has this happened to anyone else's girls ? I have become bessotted with my choocks! And there I was even planning expanding my little threesome by two more girls Three eggs a day just isn't enough
Redwing
It sounds like bruising - usually either from rubbing on the run sides or being pecked by another bird It will heal in a few days

Sue
Are they blotches like bruising or more "crusty" type blotches?
amys garden
Hi well i tried to post a pic of Hazel but couldnt if some one could let me know how ive got a good one at the ready I am going to try describe it better; The front edge of her comb looks dry and wrinkly it also looks like the black/dark/bluey 'stain' is spreading across and up her comb from her nose like a rivver or one of my kids has had a go with felt tip... otherwise she seams fairly well laying nicely and free rangeing with the others...though i have noticed there not letting her boss them as much! her face and comb are nice and red thaks SO much for our advice Amy

Sue
This might be a good link to check out http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044 Sometimes crusty blueish black scabby bits can mean Fowl Pox, not generally that serious but can make them feel a bit off colour (if you pardon the pun) put them off lay for a bit I think the best way to post a piccy is to upload it to something like Photobucket, then copy the appropriate code and paste it in on the forum
