Hi,

heres a link to my photos of the chicks. I really hope ive done this right and it works as i have no idea what im doing!

the daddy of the chicks is a dorking and the mummy i think is a rhode island red? what do you think the sex is? they have quite strong markings but im not sure if that tells me what they are? hope they are girls but i expect they are all boys!

my children reckon they can tell them apart but to me they look like triplets  according to my two the darkest is called coco, then smallest is called sally and the other one is called petal - good luck figuring them out!

Oh excellent x thank you Olly :D I am obviously biased but do think they are gorgeous! Any guesses to their sex?

Dorkings I think are sex linked which I think means markings can poss tell their sex - but I've no idea! Not that it matters but it would be nice to not have 3 boys!

It's all set up in the omlet go - I cut a piece of plywood to fit over the bars as in the go the bars and nesting area are all in one so if I remove the bars the nest will go too! I attached a bit of wood on one side of the nest area to stop anything accidentally rolling out  then I covered it all in table protector to make it non slip. I made a ramp for the chicks to walk up - which again is covered in table protector! And I covered the inside with a bit of paper as once the chicks were all hatched Belle was doing huge broody poos inside the house so thought it would be easier to clean but no belle has other ideas  and has scratched it all up and is trying to feed it to the chicks - so that has come out!

They have been outside a bit today - belle took them on their adventure - they look soooooo tiny outside!

I can see now Kirstie - gosh, they are so so cute! And what a great set up you have. Did Belle sit on the eggs where she is at the moment or was see in a box or something? I have Nigella in a box inside the kennel but was thinking that when they hatch I need to remove the box and just leave them a nice cosy corner - just incase a chick gets out of the box (which it will) and can't get back in. What do you think? We're on a '2 more sleeps' countdown - kids very excited. Have a feeling only 5/12 are going to hatch. In one way it's better cos 10/12 would be a handful but a kind of disappointing hatch rate all the same. Hope we get some girls!

2 more sleeps  wow that's gone fast! You must be on excitement tender hooks! I can't wait to hear how it goes and see your chicks :D I think you are right about taking them out of the box and prob after they hatch but when belle poo'd in the nest after the chicks had hatched I had to change her bedding and she was quite stressed - I think she was concerned about here chicks so be prepared for a little bit of stress!

Belle was sat in the nest like she is in the photos - I had set it up so the eggs couldn't roll out to the side - I wish the go and the classic had a sectioned off nesting area as when the girls are laying in there they are are quite messy and kick the nesting material out of the nesting area - plus for hatching it would make it easier! I was so worried about the chicks falling out of the house and not being able to get back in but today they were out and about for quite a bit of the day - Belle took them out and it was so sweet wherever she went her little shadows followed. They are very agile jumping up onto the ramp and their wing feathers are growing already! They are changing! :(

I think Belle is a bit inexperience as a mum as she had them out loads and they weren't under her - but I did catch her with them under her a bit plus I think I saw her stand on them twice! she was having a mad moment!

I have another broody hen at the moment  sadly I have no space for her to sit on anything - not sure what to do about her -I keep removing her from the nest but within a few moments she's back in - she may require a dunking  - I'm guessing if she will eventually give up (need to research this) but I don't want her loosing condition and getting sick x

My fingers are crossed for you Isabel - 2 more sleeps ! 2 more sleeps
