Exams!

Recommended Posts

I also dread them getting ill or worse still me giving them food poisoning the night before, not that I have ever made my family ill with my food, but there is always a first time :anxious:

Thank goodness there is someone out there the same as me  Like you I am very careful what I give them to eat...........I remember YS eating a rather out of date yogurt that had escaped me in the fridge the day before we were due to go on holiday. I was convinced he would be really ill and would end up in hospital in Majorca  He was fine :D

On another topic being in Scotland our exam system is different. Can anyone (if it is not a bother) explain what all the exams in England are and what age they sit them? All I really know is our Highers are not at the same level as A levels but I reckon our Advanced Highers will be. Also do you get a chance to resit in the same year?

As far as I understand, your Highers are the equivalent of our GCSE's which are taken at 16 and your advanced Highers are the equivalent of our A levels which are taken at 18, our children also take AS levels at the end of the lower sixth which count towards their A levels the following year.

I think I've got these facts straight :) .

Before the A* at A Level was introduced in 2010, Advanced Highers gained more UCAS points.

Now you are awarded:

140 for an A* at A level

130 for an A at Advanced Higher

120 for a A at A level.

AHs supposedly have broader subject cover and are the equivalent of first year at a Scottish Uni (hence 2nd year entry is allowed with good AH grades).

DD has written French GCSE today and thinks she has blown it. :(

Heard from another school today and they are saying that this French paper was particularly hard so maybe there is a little hope if everyone struggled  My 2 revising are currently eating me out of house and home with all the snacks they are getting through. I spent half the weekend cooking  They might get good results but could end up somewhat heavier than before

Ditto

I only have DS off at the moment ED doesn't finish until 1st June, she is not happy because all other 6th forms have either finished already or do so this week. DS is not only eating, but has become totally hooked on tea, he is drinking bucket loads of it. I used a pack of 80 tea bags in little over a week, ok not just him we are a big tea drinking family but...!

ES seems happy doing his exams. I'm quite enjoying the excuse to look after and spoil him

I'm trying to maintain a nice calm atmosphere in the house until exams are over but struggling to get OH to stop nagging the boys for a few weeks

Glad its over! :D

Had my Horse Health exam this morning and think it went ok, came out smiling

That said I spent half of it daydreaming about Womble ma pony at work + Wayne the Unicorn!

Last (and worst) one is Immunology on Monday!

Module is 100% based on the exam, and 50% of people failed it last year so not looking good. Wish we had some coursework based on the practicals

Hurray, last school exam ever is over  . My work here is done and I am no longer required to nag

wow my ES last exam isn't until almost the end of June, that last week and a half has him only doing 3 exams so I think keeping him focussed to the end will be tough :(
