22 days and no chicks? ** Updated.

Recommended Posts

I all. My Lavender Penkin has been sitting on her eggs for 22 days now and from what I can see there are still no chicks. should I be worried?

She has been a wonderful sitter and if I try and lift her to have a look she pecks and shouts at me!

any advice would be great fully received.

My sliver partridge pekin Milly has got 4 beautiful chicks!! They were hatched over 3 days!! :?(hatch) The first hatched late on day 21 the second early on day 22, one aruacana(bought egg) hatched on day 23 and final 2 hatched on day 24, one am and one pm!!!!! I was a bag of nerves.....worrying over it all and sadly the aruacana chick died after 2 days :( One egg didn't hatch at all, another aruacana)

Try listening, as in the evening of day 21 we could hear cheeping coming from the first egg!!!

All the best and keep us posted!!

It's near impossible to see what's happening as my Lavender is very defensive so I can't pick her up to have a look. So the only time is when she comes off her nest to poop and feed. I just happened to catch her off the nest this morning and one of the eggs was cheeping and had a little crack in it. Then I've just been up there now and although she is back on her nest I can defiantly hear a lot of cheeping going on. When do the chicks start coming out from under mum?

I have literally left her too it,so have not candled any of them.

Well done!!!! :D You didn't have to wait too long!(hatch) The best advice I can give you now is sit on your hands!! If mum gets off the nest temp & humidity will be lost for those still hatching. They will come out for a peep once they are dry. But if you can see and remove any egg shells, then do.

Milly didn't want to get off the remaining eggs and we had to wait 2 days before she gave up on the last egg. I was worried about the first hatched chicks, so put chick crumb and water next to mum. She was very good and called them to it with that clucking/clicking noise and encouraged them to eat without getting off the others!!!

Now they are a hive of cheeping activity!!!!!!:lol: They and mum are still inside at the mo, but the youngest chicks will be a week old on mon, so they will be going outside in to my ark with run. Will miss chick watching.......But the housework might get more of my attention!!!!:lol::lol:

Well, good news all round hear. in Monday chick one hatched, it's gorgeous and we have names it Pippin and yesterday chick 2 hatched and it's name is Sam. Lavender (mum) seems keen to sit on the other eggs but when she was off this afternoon to show the two little ones where the food was I took a look and out of the four eggs left, 2 were def heavier then the other two. I just don't know what to do next? Should I just chuck them in the bin? Or should I crack them open?

Yay, well done!!! Aren't pekin chicks SO cute with their little feathered feet?!?! As I replied before my pekin mum Milly had a 3 day hatch, with one egg that didn't hatch. She didn't want to leave it at first, then she just decided that was it left the nest and wasn't interested anymore, so then I took it away. It felt quite cold to hold.(threw it away without breaking it open)

I think that was half way through day 25. I tip I was given is if you can hold the egg, does it feel warm? Apparently it should hold it's warmth if there's a live chick inside.

Be lovely to see some pics!! Keep us posted!

My 4 are doing really well. The oldest 2 will be 2 weeks old on sat, they have wing feathers and tail feathers!!! Younger 2 catching up fast! They are outside now with mum in ark with run. i think I have a gold partridge and possibly 2 salmon partridge and the last one looks like a croos between the 2!!! :D:D
