Last minute holiday

Recommended Posts

Well, not that last minute. :) We are trying to book a holiday in the Isles of Scilly for a week in August, but it seems that the whole island is fully booked (apart from some exorbitantly priced hotels!).

Seems that we will have to revise out holiday plans.

Any ideas for anywhere - not toooooo hot - sometime in :? August?

The Gower coast is beautiful, some really lovely beaches and nice hotels

Or how about Lundy?

Or skip over to France and drive down the border with Belgium and Germany, much cheaper than the north coast but still lots to do, we used to go over via Norfolkline ferry Dover to Dunkirk which can be extremely cheap

Devon ,Cornwall, The Channel Islands or Centerparcs spring to mind....all my favorite places!

I was thinking Channel Islands too. It's beautiful over there and has that 'abroad but not abroad' feeling (if you get what I mean!) Cornwall is lovely too (not been to Devon) but I wonder if that may be very booked up already too?

IOW perhaps :?: I took DH there for his 40th I was pleasantly surprised it was not at all what I expected some bits are like cornwall others are hilly like scotland I would definately like to go back there. Or can I suggest Orkney it has the most breathtaking scenery and views and is so peacefull :)

Devon is lovely! We know, we live here!!

Try bideford tourist office(look up, or ring Burton art gallery bideford, they share)

loads to do , and a real variety of prices. What sort of thing were you looking for, exactly, as we may know people who have s/catering, or B and b

we're north devon, close to n cornwall

Its never too hot!!

I loved Herefordshire when we visited. Utterly beautiful, interesting market towns and history. Croft Castle is worth a visit. Easy to get into Wales, I still haven't got to the Brecon Beacons. OH loved the roads, sweepy and curvy, says he'd like to go back on the bike. Lots of yummy local food.

How about coming over to the Isle of Man?

It has aspects of Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England :D

I LOVE the Isle of Man! We went once about 20 years ago but haven't made it back yet. We will. :D

Thank you for all your suggestions. Some lovely ideas for future holidays.

Have managed to book a self catering flat on St Mary's - Isles of Scilly. We were very lucky to get a cancellation. Have spent the last 3 hours booking train and boat trips to get there. All sorted, but sadly no berth on the sleeper train on the way back. Will just have to curl up on the recliner seat!
