Luvachicken
I only have a tiny space in front of my new chicken run and thought I could plant some lavenders in the space. They are evergreen aren't they ? And they supposedly keep away flies ? But how can I keep them small ? I know you trim them in August after they finish flowering but is that enough to keep them small ? If not, any other suggestions for something that lives a long time, keeps flies away and has some pretty flowers and is small ?
Ain't Nobody Here
I have one that's only 2 years old and is still pretty small. I just chopped off a few leggy branches off the sides to tidy it up so I assume you can just chop off as much as you want to keep it the size you want . Lesley
Lavender plants come in different sizes - make sure you choose a compact one. I've bought plants from Downderry Nurseries and they were good plants. http://www.downderry-nursery.co.uk/
Luvachicken
Lavender plants come in different sizes - make sure you choose a compact one. I've bought plants from Downderry Nurseries and they were good plants. http://www.downderry-nursery.co.uk/ Thanks for that I didn't realise there were quite so many different sorts of lavender. I had already bought Hidcote as the man at the garden centre said they could be used as edgeing and would stay small. I hope they do. Now I just need some nice weather to plant them. The Dogmother
Keep them in a pot and trim every year, that keeps mine small
