chestnutmare
They had a few days in their cage in the shed before going in the garden. We had to wait for the new eglu to arrive (I'm glad I kept hold of that run now). I'm glad I went for pekins and silkies, they're cuties with characters. They're 6wks at the moment. Lovely aren't they?

Gertie
Aawwwwww, they are sooo cute. I love the video. The white ones look like little fluffy snowballs!!! Are you keeping them all?!
chestnutmare
I have had two male neighbours tell me that it's impossible for chickens to be cute... but everyone else who's seen them (and there's been a few) have said they are cute. I know I can come here and people will 'understand' . I'll hopefully find a home for the boy pekin. A neighbour might take him once they've done their garden but it's not certain yet. So that's 3 girl pekins. I don't know what sex the silkies are yet but there are 3 of them. I may have to sell a couple as they get bigger, especially if I want to hatch again in the future. I might just knock the garage down (who wants a garage anyway?!) and put lots of Omlet housing there... and chickens in them, of course. Gertie
I'm sure you could squeeze in a few more Go. I agree who needs a garage (ours is falling down and has an asbestos roof - lovely ) they are just stuff magnets as are attics. Chickens are much more fun and definitely cute! My partner can't quite get the chickens are cute thing either.
chestnutmare
I reckon men are just in denial - I see them watching the chickens when they think "Ooops, word censored!"ody is looking. I have an extension for the Go run but then that really would take up most of the lawn. I have a small (sloping) garden. I've ready taken a shed down for my original girls, the only other space would be to take down the second shed. But then these chickens really would be taking over!! But you can get so many colours... Surely I'd need a chicken of each colour?!
Cheeky Chooky
Ooooh they're scrumptious!
Gertie
Hhm, perhaps it's wise to leave a bit of space for the childminding!! Chicken poo and children don't always mix! My partner doesn't share my enthusiasm either. He says they are like aliens and he doesn't have much to do with them, although he likes pretending he does when we have guests and he collects the eggs

He says they are like aliens and he doesn't have much to do with them, although he likes pretending he does when we have guests and he collects the eggs Thanks CC Ha ha, Gertie - like aliens. Actually my partner likes the chickens. Keeping chickens was my idea in the first place but they've definitely grown on him. He can't wait to hatch more! I could use the excuse about childminding and garden but I can't... Children don't use my garden because there's a much more impressive park behind the house. Purplemaniacs
They are lovely. How old are they? Since we hatched Tumble I have fallen in love with Silkies but sadly Tumble has started practicing his crowing in the last week. chestnutmare
Thanks They are 6 weeks in the video and pictures. They're 7wks today. Boy pekin is crowing and had been since 4wks of age but (at the moment) its quiet and even quite cute! At what age did Tumble start crowing? I'll be taking pictures if my silkies this weekend to play the guessing game (sex). I've been upstairs in the back bedroom studying and I find myself watching them invetween working. Purplemaniacs
Tumble was almost 13 weeks old when he started to have a go at crowing, he sticks his head out and makes this funny noise like he has got a very sore throat, he is funny but I am sad he is a boy. As our first ever hatchling I wanted to keep him/her, we are going to see how loud he gets. The Pekin and Araucana who are boys are a lot louder at the moment but they have had more practice Chrissie
chestnutmare
Such a shame he turned out to be a boy. I think I have 2 boy silkies and 1 girl. I can see clear differences in the (thought to be) 2 boys and the girl. But I've been told 'they can always surprise you'
Purplemaniacs
Tumble is a mini white silkie which I am told are hard to sex, its wait for a crow or an egg and sadly we got the crow but he is so cute. Chrissie
