sorry - another nest box question!

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I know similar questions have been asked but just wondering...

Three of my four gorgeous POL girls insist on sleeping in the nest box, they literally pile on top of each other and fill the available space (imagine plopping 3 assorted jellies into a box... You get the idea!) Anyway, wasn't too bothered and from what others have said its almost impossible to keep them out if they really want to be in there. I poo pick as soon as they are out so not worried about that either. But what I do worry about is that in autumn/winter when I am at work until after dark I won't have had chance to collect any eggs that (fingers crossed) they will have laid in there. So was wondering, if they are still sleeping in one great jelly like heap in the nest box, what are they chances of the eggs surviving? Sorry if its a daft question! Xxx

My hybrids all sleep in the cube nest box, I am normally home in time to collect the eggs but if I am late I just gently move the chooks to get to the eggs. I have not had any problems.

When they were in the eglu I used to block of the nest with a large flower pot and after a few weeks they stopped trying to sleep in there but I found it difficult to stop them in the cube so I just poo pick in the morning.
