Dog food advice needed please

Recommended Posts

We feed our labradoodle Digby with fish4dogs (www.fish4dogs.com), only ingredients in that are fish and potato so it's totally suitable for sensitive tummies. He's doing really well on it and I would recommend it as a dried food wholeheartedly. We tend to top it with a little raw meat or vegetables for variety. Their treats are wonderful too!

My dogs love that feed too, they also get Jon Angell - the folks running that used to own Fish4Dogs, so the products are very similar. As you say, it is very good for dogs with a sensitive tum, as is raw food.

When I used to foster rescued greyhounds, the was much less of a variety of feed but I always found that dogs which had sensitive tums did well on fish and/or a raw diet.

a good supplement for sensitive dogs is Dorwest Herbs' Tree Barks Powder.

I've managed to source Orijen locally and have been gradually introducing it into Poppy's mealtimes. So far, touch wood, she has been fine with no sickness. Looking at the packaging I was surprised at just how little is recommended for a dog her size, far less than the Beta she has been having, so don't think it will work out that much more expensive and worth it to know it's not full of 'fillers' and for her not to be ill. Fish4Dogs sounds like a good choice too and I'll get some of their treats to give her.

Thanks again for all your advice.

Sally

I have a similar food problem with my dog. He is an 8 month old Eurasier. Some food give him a very very runny bottom, some a mid runny bottom. And the only one that doesn't give him a problem he is not very keen on....

I am reluctant to buy mail order as dont want to run out. on the no no list so far

See how he goes, some dogs, especially pedigrees can have immensely sensitive tums.

I once fostered a rescued greyhound which had a dodgy gut; I fed him on raw chicken carcasses, potato (cooked and mashed up with no milk or butter), cod liver oil, Dorewest's Keepers Mix and their Digestive tablets. Worked a treat on that one, but then every dog is different.
