surfer_chicken
I've been interested in getting myself an iPhone for over a year now, but I've been put off by the price (but slowly coming around to it). I've also been put off by second hand one's online as I hate I can't see it properly before I buy it. I went to a local phone shop today to get my current phone unlocked (it's so terrible it wouldn't even connect to the computer to get unlocked ) but I noticed they had a second hand iPhone 4 on the network I want (pay as you go) for £259. I've been working full time over the summer before uni, missing out on a lot of events with friends and feel like I deserve to treat myself. The screen/back was in excellent condition, no scratches. My only worry would be battery life, as I know it can wear down over time, but Apple can replace it for £60 if it did die after a year anyway. I plan on going back tomorrow after sleeping on it and going back tomorrow to have a proper look and possibly (probably) buy it. Anyone got a second opinion for me before I go? Is £259 a reasonable price for a good condition, second hand iPhone?
Chucky Mama
Would you get a warranty of any sort with it?
surfer_chicken
I don't know, that's one of the things I'd need to ask tomorrow, but I doubt it. The equivalent, new, comes with a one year warranty and is £429 from Apple.
Space Chick
I'd try and negotiate on the price
surfer_chicken
I'd try and negotiate on the price Yeah I was thinking about haggling, but it'll be my first go! Any ideas on a good starting price?
Geoid
I paid about the same for my second hand iPhone 4S 32GB. I would see if you could try and get it for about £200. Since you are buying from a shop and not a private seller (like eBay) you get further rights under the sale of goods act, which means it should work for a reasonable amount of time (I would say around 3 years) and if it doesn't they have to repair or replace it, for free. Lewis
I'd have a look at eBay for refurbished ones! They are graded so you know what you are getting and if you wait for the right one the prices are quite good. That's where my last 2 phones have come from, recently got an iPhone 4S - went for the 4S 'cos the signal issues with the 4 have been resolved ...and Siri is a pretty cool toy
Geoid
Thanks Fred. Is there any documents I need to ask for and keep hold of to keep my sale of good rights? You just need to hang on to the receipt.
gongladosh
when the iphone 5 comes out will be a good time to look for a second hand iphone - look for someone who's about to upgrade and make them an offer! I'd be tempted to try and target o2 users - if your contract has been running for some time, O2 lets you unlock their phones for free via a web site. I think you would have quite a fight on your hands trying to get 3 years out of someone selling a second hand phone.
Geoid
True, but I had a 3 year old USB stick, it broke, so I sent it back and the company couriered over a new one the next day!

The Dogmother
Do you have a branch of Cex near you? It's a 2nd hand electricals place; Rosie got an ipod there when hers broke, they test them before they are sold and have phones too. Of course, they have receipts and guarantees.
