Kindle Fire

Recommended Posts

The one with the light is the Paperwhite,& I really fancy one of those.

BUT & its a BIG but......................I read a lot in the bath & I am worried that the touch screen won't work through a waterproof case cover,so I am a bit stuck really

Like the look of the Fire, but in reality my Smartphone can do almost everything the Fire can do & I am also concerned about the viewing comfort of the backlit screen.

I dont think it will work with a cover, as it has a capacitive touch screen, which needs your fingers to touch the screen.

In Comet today, the 32gb Fire seemed lot bulkier & heavier than the 16, but the assistant wouldn't take the security device off so that I could feel the real weight if it (these things matter!). Comet, you've Failed & I won't be buying anything from you...

Neither will anyone else now they have gone into receivership :?

Am I the only person who reads in the bath?

I do

Thought I could smell something Clare :lol::lol::lol:

Had a play with a Fire in John Lewis today,& even though the graphics are great,I didn't like the amount of glare on the screen,so am going to give it a miss.

I really hope they can evolve e-ink technology to be in colour - I miss my colour covers, & so often only recognise a book by its cover.

I have the new Paperwhite, and it is great.

It's a replacement for my previous Kindle, which was the model with a keyboard.

It's so easy to read in bed. When I got the original Kindle, I wasn't too worried about not being able to read in the dark; after all, that's no different to a book. However, I find I read more in bed with the Kindle than I did when I used proper books, as it is so much easier to hold and to turn pages.

With the backlit paperwhite, I'm in Kindle heaven. Absolutely fab.

I didn't look at the Kindle Fire, I have an Asus Transformer pad already, which synchs with my Kindle, so didn't feel it would add much for me personally.

I have a Paperwhite, after Hubby commandeered my old Kindle.

I made the huge sacrifice of letting him keep it & upgrading :lol:

I totally love it, although it did take me a while to get used to touching the screen rather than clicking a button.

The only issue I have had with it is the HUNDREDS of books I downloaded from the Amazon Cloud all came through with no cover illustrations, so I have had to go through them one by one, remove them & re download them onto the Kindle.

Not a big deal for many people, but it drove me mad having covers for some but not for all of my books

All in all it is a very marvellous thing, & I can only see myself upgrading if/when they develop colour e-ink.

I have had a Kindle Fire too, & it was much much harder to read in sunlight, which is a very great shame (but not as hard as an ipad!)

Typically, after ordering it OH says don't you think you'd prefer a tablet  . Noooo, I've spent so long persuading myself the Paperwhite is what I want  . I think I've still made the right choice :? .

I have a tablet as well, and although I have the Kindle software on that, I've found the Kiindle itself much easier to use for reading. It's a better size, a better weight; it's paperwhite so doesn't need a light, and you can still see it in bright sun. And the screen doesn't get so smeary.

When you get it and start using it, you'll wonder why you waited so long. At least, that's what happened to me.

My Kindle is here :D:dance: . Two weeks till my birthday but obviously I have to check it works  .

It's much smaller than I expected (although I knew it was 7" it still seems small  ).

I've been going through the Book Recommendations thread and now have a long list to get through! I'm going to try and convert some library books too as I can get quite a few of them as ebooks from Edinburgh library 8) .

You'll soon find it to be a perfect size (and very flexible because you can adjust the size of text, and the lime spacing, giving you more or fewer lines per page) and next time you pick up a tablet, you'll wonder how people can use one to read books.

My DH was happy using a Samsung tablet as an e-reader, and couldn't see what I was on about. Now he has a Kobo, and finds the Kobo much better.

I have had my Kindle a week and i love it . I have a few freebies loaded from the book store and bought a few, so easy once it is all set up , just got the hang of taking photos with it,not used any music as yet, and my grandson has added a couple of free games for when i'm babysitting him , his brother and sister , also a couple of bed time stories for Dominic. So all in all i'm very happy with it . Why did i wait so long before getting one ? i keep asking myself, after all i knew the ipad would never be even a reasonable price.

I tend to rush these things and not read instructions properly but got it working without too much difficulty.

Please don't follow my instructions without checking it out yourself first - I don't want to be responsible for anything going wrong!

Download Calibre.

Then download a DRM removal tool - I used this one.

You then open Calibre, go to Preferences, Advanced, Plugins, load plugin from file - choose DRMplugin zip file which you downloaded earlier. Restart Calibre. "Add book" from library site (or whichever you're using), then "send to device" which should prompt you to convert the book first.

I think that's right - hard to know for sure without doing it again from scratch! Let me know if it doesn't work.
