Kindle Fire

Recommended Posts

Well it finally has a release date. Has anyone any input, eg seen reviews or experience of it from abroad?

I'm quite tempted and its my birthday in October. I dont have a tablet at all and am considering one. My laptop is about to die so I wonder if it is a good alternative. I use my phone a lot for surfing so small isnt necessary a problem. Thanks

I want one too and we got a brief email at work about them as we will be stocking them soon. They come out officially on the 25th of Oct and from what I could see - given that the email lacked an awful lot of specific info - the Kindle Fire HD will range in price from £159 to £199, which is considerably cheaper than other tablets. However, they will only be available in the UK in the 7" size at first which is disappointing as I really wanted the bigger one. I love my kindle and am looking forward to trying the demo model out when it arrives in the shop!

I'm debating with myself over getting one of these as opposed to an ipad.

I love my Kindle, but fancy a tablet. I'm looking at the Kindle Fire HD. Chatting with the IT chap at work this morning, he thought they'd be a good buy, as the earlier versions have had good reports in the US, and he suggested that you wouldn't be limited with software options as you are with an ipad. Also, it has a USB port, and the capability to work with an Office app, which the ipad doesn't have. The graphics aren't as spectacular evidently, but are pretty good.

Decisions, decisions.

You'd be better off with an Android tablet Sage - the Samsung 10" one is currently on offer at PC World/Currys; fantastic bargain.

The Kindle Fire HD 32GB is 'only' £199.00. Very tempting. The 16GB is £159.00.

I am totaly confused by the kindle. :? If you get the fire do you pay extra for the internet :?: Will it work abroad and would you pay extra for the internet? I would love to buy OH one for Chrismas. He loves to read. Help me out Ometeers. :D

As far as I can tell, the Kindle Fire does not have 3G (mobile internet), which means you will have to use WiFi to connect to the internet. If you go abroad and find a free WiFi hotspot (found in many hotels and coffee shops) then the internet will be free.

*Hops from one foot to the other*, I don't know what to do either!!!!!

I had a Kindle with keyboard, but it developed hairline cracks below the screen, So Amazon replaced it (no quibble, it's a known fault). I sold that & also sold my Motorola Xoom. I was thinking of the Fire, but just don't know what to do now! The 'basic' kindle feels a bit cheap...there is the Touch...but there's a newer verion out on Nov 25th which has a light & is supposedly better. In Comet today, the 32gb Fire seemed lot bulkier & heavier than the 16, but the assistant wouldn't take the security device off so that I could feel the real weight if it (these things matter!). Comet, you've Failed & I won't be buying anything from you...

The one with the light is the Paperwhite,& I really fancy one of those.

BUT & its a BIG but......................I read a lot in the bath & I am worried that the touch screen won't work through a waterproof case cover,so I am a bit stuck really

Like the look of the Fire, but in reality my Smartphone can do almost everything the Fire can do & I am also concerned about the viewing comfort of the backlit screen.

Um yes but I find my smart phone that little bit too small for comfortable surfing. My lap top needs replacing and I really only use it to surf. So lucky kindle user, Is it a contender for internet use. How is the typing on it would you get fed up if looking for something and ordering so typing a fair bit?

Glad you like it Egluntyne, keep updating us on your views of it, please.

I am tempted I need an electronic gizmo to keep all the archery rule books on, judges used to get paper copies but not now and I am fed up of having to keep printing them as they are updated for each tournament.

I had suggested ipad but OH who doesn't like them said no :( .
