Please can you help with my shopping list ?

Recommended Posts

I was going to order some new grubs and a glug ready for when the chicks go in with my 2 older girls.

Sadly, I will have to get purple as they no longer do lilac :(

Anyway, I was looking at what else I should buy but was confused at the difference between Diatomaceous Earth and Biolink Diatom as one was 100g for £6.00 and the other was 450g for £7.00. They both had the same description in the omlet shop so I might as well get the larger amount.

Also, now I have girlies with feathery feet, I was told to look out for scaly leg, so just in case should I buy the Nettex scaly leg or Johnsons Scaly leg lotion ?

One more question, I can't find the Nettex neat solution for mites that you dilute yourself ( the pink one), in the omlet shop, any one know where it is ?

Is one of the diatoms in a puffer bottle and the other in a tub? I find my puffer bottle quite handy, but if this is the issue you might be able to buy the cheaper one and decant into another bottle.

Do you need the scaly leg solution? When mine had it I used surgical spirit and vaseline which got rid of it with great success and it never came back.

I recently bought diatom and after shopping around a bit got a whole kilo delivered for under £7.00 off ebay.

It's not in a plastic pot, but I keep it in a cheap Asda 'tupperware' box. I have also seen it suggested that if you want a puffer-type pack you could use an old talc container. Don't be fooled by fancily packaged branded versions of the same stuff!

I made similar savings when I bought Nettex ground sanitiser - 2kg for £15.99 with free p&P.

I tend to browse this forum and the Eglu sales pages to find out what I need/want and then go to ebay/Amazon for the best prices. If you're not desperate to have stuff 'now' you can set up saved searches and wait to spot a bargain :D

i also scour the internet amazon / e-bay for cheaper prices and found a place in beverley east riding on e-bay that does diaotmaceous earth for £15.99 for a 6kg tub plus £7.90 for p+p and that is cheap when i have seen some places wanting to charge £25.00 for a 2kg tub and then there is p+p to go on that i try things out and if i do not like them or the quality is not as good i go back to the original you dont need fancy packaging its the contents inside that counts and if it works and does the job that you want it to do that is all that matters

Re Scaly leg, I bought a special spray for it as we had a bad case earlier this year however I found it to be pretty useless. When seeing the vet I asked her opinon as what to do as online there are various ways to get rid of it some rather extreme, she told me to to bathe the legs in warm water with some hebiscrub then dry them and smother with vaseline. It worked wonders I used an old soft tooth brush when washing the legs. Tullah our old chuck was not amused by this treatment but co operated when feet were in the washing bowl, I did remind her that she was having a pedicure and that if I wanted one it would cost a bomb, not sure she appreciated my lecture

However you may find that a spray acts a prevention treatment ???

I bought my DE from there :)

Good service, good quality DE (as far as I can tell, not clumpy etc) and a fairly robust plastic tub so I can keep it outside and don't have to try and find more room in the shed :)
