counturchickens
We've moved into our new house and have inherited an alpha range (now owned by aga )I used to have a modern range cooker and now this seems small in comparison. I plan to roast a chicken later (from tesco, not the garden ) and our baking tray will just fit in using the shelves as they are. This is ok for now, but in winter where do the roast potatoes go? Should I be putting the roasting tray directly on the base of the top oven? Are there any special trays for this purpose, and does anyone have any other hints and tips? Thanks in advance! Goosey Lucy
Hi, I'm having similar dilemmas as the house we've just moved into has a Stanley range. A friend's advice was to put the roast potato tray lower in the oven if you can't get the spuds in the tray with your roast. If they go in together, put the spuds in the tray towards the back of the oven. However I haven't tried this out yet. My chicken has just gone in at 10am so it will be interesting to see how well it will cook. I'm hoping to do some baking this afternoon as once Stanley is hot he stays hot for a long time... Another friend said that for baking cakes you need to put a cold sheet in at the top of the oven to absorb some of the heat so the cake doesn't burn. This I'm sketchy on tho. This place has recipes/cookware but I've no idea if it's reasonably priced. Good luck with yours and I'll be watching this thread with interest
The Dogmother
I have a 90cm range cooker and it has plenty of room when I cook for 10 at Christmas but I like to do the roast potatoes in my Remoska as it does them really well. Old Speckled Hen
roast potatoes in my Remoska . Interesting. Having inherited a Rayburn in a small kitchen I was exploring the possibility of installing a small cooker or upgrading to a decent combo microwave. Now a Remoska is another option............aaaaargh!!!!
The Dogmother
It's really good for lots of things; roast potatoes, baked taters, sausages... Yorkshire puddings. It's cheap to run as well.
counturchickens
We do have a gas hob and electric cooker as well, I guess the previous occupants used both. I am determined to use the alpha, and perhaps just have a gas hob. The chicken fitted in and seems to be cooking well, but the shelf position means I can't get anything else in. Should I just be sitting the chicken on the bottom of the oven?
