Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Having managed to set light to two Morso gloves which came with our wood burners I was wondering what is the best thing to use to open the doors, it's a bit expensive to keep buying Morso gloves and I know someone on here will have a much better solution .

I've never used gloves, there's a tool to open the vents and doors on my stove.

 

You can get the gloves in good hardware stores though.

Thank you DM, I can now see that the fabric gloves I had are not really the right thing to use; it should be a proper leather glove. It seems a bit odd them supplying a fabric glove when it can burn so easily - or maybe it's just me that can manage to set light to them .

Our woodburner has a special handle to open the door too.

My woodburner has a handle that doesn't get hot so I have never needed a glove. I'd have thought one of those silicone-type oven gloves would work though? Or invest in some tongs!

I bought leather gauntlets from the shop where I bought the stove. We've had the stove and the gloves for about 15 years, and all are still going strong. I've really only used one of them , as I rarely need to use both hands.

 

I use the gauntlet to open the stove if necessary (depends how hot the handle gets), and I also use it if I need to poke around in the stove while it's burning.

 

They are fantastic.

I made a little "oven cloth", crochet one side, and lined heavily with thick cotton the other. Seems to do the job, and looks quite pretty as well!

The ones I've seen are either leather or made of some woven fire retardant stuff.

I have a thick leather gauntlet that came with the burner and is fine, I also bought some similar backups at either Lidl or Aldi a few years ago quite cheaply, but actually have never needed to use them.

If only they fitted Clare, I have really small hands so feel like a goalie in them, they are huuuuge!

Sounds like me then - I have some lovely Aga oven gloves given to me as a present; they have nice long cuffs but are massive! My hands are only 6" long so I have to be careful when I wear them that I am holding things properly.
