crackle nail polish - update. Thumbs up!

Recommended Posts

I don't usually bother with nail varnish apart from occasionally using clear but ive noticed crackle polish which looks fun. Is it complicated? Do I need anything special and should someone like me just walk away and spend the money on a book and read about women who wear crackle nail polish?

Try it :)

It's a bit 'hit and miss' - as in some shades from some companies seem to work better than others (I'll have a look through my stash and see if I can recall which ones worked well for me)

It doesn't look good on me - I have very small nails (as in small hands, tiny nail beds), so it tends to look just messy for me, there isn't enough surface area for it to look 'right'

On others it looks good, one of my students had a Barry M (nice and cheap!) one on the other day which looked great

Barry m , says my teenage daughter is really good stuff!! it's not complicated, you put on a base colour, let it dry, then put on a top colour, only stroke it over the base colour one time(so about three swipes per nail, ,if that makes sense)

You can use any type of base colour, but need the crackle polish for the top!

Have fun!!

I've tried them all! I've had Nails inc ( not good), OPI ( ok), claire's accessories ( very good), but the best I've found at the oment & what I have on funny enough, is some I bought off Avon website. It crackle how you want it to crackle 7 the colours are lovely.

I've got black nail varnish on, then have alternate nails done with fiery fuschia & gleaming emerald crackle polish. You just paint it over your normal polish & it cracks. They also do a gold, purple, blue & silver which I might have to go online & buy! It's fun & unusual & a lot of people will notice your nails.

Try it! I also like the large paticle glitter polish from ' Claire's or Avon'. I've got gold, silver & a sort of mixed colour. They too look brilliant over black nail varnish.

'Santa' got some for the girls last Christmas. I think it was Boots No17 (teens make-up range) and it works really well. 'Santa' made sure the bottom colour was brighter than the top so you can really see the crackles. They also got the magnetic polish which I wasn't too impressed with but after further use it is really good.

I have the Nails Inc magnetic polish - fabulous stuff! Not often I'm really impressed with something new, but this is great. Some of the colours work much better than others. The other great thing about it is that it really lasts - a good week on me (and I don't use rubber gloves for washing up etc, so that's really good going)

It's wonderful! Thank you for all your recommendations, I've made a list and will use it. I put on some clear purple glitter polish first, then the black crackle polish then some clear. The purple glitter shows through the cracks. It's very Halloween!

It's actually perfect for me because I'm lazy and slapdash with beauty products and the cracks disguise smudges and flaws.

I have to confess that I have been turning into one of those women who bemoans how much make-up young girls wear, but oh my goodness, there is so much glittery, shimmery, colourful make-up out there and lots of it at pocket money prices, of course they like to wear it. I would have.

I spent a couple of lazy hours online looking at all the products. I also watched some nail art videos. If these products had been around 35years ago I would probably have been in trouble with my Dad more than I already was.

I don't often wear finger nail polish, because I am not allowed to for work, but my toes are always painted.

At the moment they are a rather wonderful forest green with gold flecks - I think it was a Revlon shade.

I LOVE the Accessorize range for glitters - they are so much more glittery than other glitters, & they also do some fab metallics, which I am really into at the moment.

You can get them in the Accessorize shops, or they do a bigger range in large Superdrugs, often on 3 for 2.

Nails Inc & OPI are favourites too,but a bit more expensive.

Nails Inc all the way for me and like Merlina says it lasts a good week (assuming I use base and top coat). Given that other polishes are chipped by the same / next day, that's going it some

Haven't tried the crackle yet but love the metallics, magnetics and glitter, although that's quite hard to get off.

Got my eye one of their Grafitti polishes at the moment which has multi-coloured streaky bits to go on top of a white base.

Genius. I've never thought of this before, I make a right hash of painting my nails myself so have been and bought some crackle. Only cheapy rimmel but it looks fab.

Just need crackle to stay in fashion and my nails will look good.

Where is Nails inc from?

A word of warning about Barry M magnetic varnishes,by the way.

They come in various shades & also various magnetic patterns & some people who want a particular pattern & shade combo have been swapping the magnets around,to get what they want :?

We know because we found a LOT with no magnets on at all & the one we did buy didn't make the pattern shown on the bottle, but a different one

Might be worth buying them online where they should be tamper free.
