Just got off the phone to my dad, he says that the black bar that holds the lid of the Eglu to the bottom has rusted through and is now in two pieces.

The bit circled in red is the bar that has broken.

 

Is it replaceable? If so, where can I get a new one?

Omlet sell them but they're not on the list - you have to phone them. I think they quoted me £6 which I thought was a bargain!

Yep they are easy enough to replace - you may have to unscrew the front/door panel to get the new one in though

That's right, you will need to take the front off.

Thanks for the advice everyone, just ordered a new one, cost £9.30 including delivery which, I think, is quite good value

If you have a classic Eglu, then there are screws at the bottom of the front panel, and I think there are a couple underneath too, but I may be mis-remembering. They are pretty obvious when you look at it.

They are at the bottom of the front of the Eglu. On the bottom grey bit of the frame under the door. There is a recess/hole thingy either side and a lonnnnnnnnng posi head screw in each. I use my electric screwdriver (with extension bit) to remove mine as they go on forever!

 

You can see them both at the bottom of your pic. Be careful when unscrewing as there are also screws holding the front & door to the base. I usually upend the eglu and balance the front on my knees whilst kneeling (usually in the mud) to carry out the task

I managed it when we bought a second hand one as the prvious owner had taken it out
