More hens well chicks

Recommended Posts

Tuesday I collected my dear little Brillo's replacement who's a lovely golden/red coloured Silkie but because she was younger/smaller than expected I figured she needed a little friend while she's growing up. So also making it into the catbox was a pretty millefleur Pekin. So they are going to be Nook and Kindle.

I held firm with just the two but still kicked myself all the way home that I hadn't bagged the the wee lavender Pekin as well whilst I was there. :wall: I had her in my hands.

If they are the same age I'd be concerned about the Silkie if someone has made a mistake as basic as sexing a Pekin if they has supposedly sexed both as females

I can sex the Pekins a good 10 weeks earlier than the Silkies

Aside from that congrats on your new chooks, I love red Silkies

By all means come and see what you think.

Looking at others she/he is quite a pale gingery colour with the spangles and pictures I've found of the boys they seem darker and less spangly but that may change with age.

I'm trying to think back to the Pekins I've hatched and you could tell the boys at a few weeks so I could be totally wrong.

Daxigirl, I totally understand...confession time, I get No 1 son to post mine cause I SO can't do it!!!!:oops::lol:

Really though I guess a comb developing/colouring up at 8 weeks-ish is a little worrying. My "babies" are 30 weeks and are really only turning red in recent weeks. (Hopeful of eggs in the new year!! )

Even my 2 "accidental" babies Tilly and Polly 18 weeks are not too red, just starting around the edges and Polly more than Tilly, although they are full sisters!

I guess you'll have to watch for more developments over the next few days/weeks. Maybe if she's a he you could swop him for the lavender you saw? Well of course if it's still there!

Keep us posted!! :D
