Goosey Lucy
There are tops to cupboards? I'm meant to clean these too???
The Dogmother
I wouldn't bother yourself about it Lucy They are a refuge for spiders and dust bunnies.
Goosey Lucy
*Phew* Thanks DM. I can't even reach the top shelf of my cupboards let alone get to the top of them...joys of an old house with high ceilings No spiders here: cats do for 'em
The Dogmother
Phil made the mistake of commenting on my dust bunny haven on top of the cooker hood the other weekend; I handed him a wet sponge. He won't do that again in a hurry Well, I couldn't see it, but then let's face it... probably anyone taller than an elf could see it

Lesley
I decided a while ago that 'if I can't see it, it doesn't exist' Life's far too short for looking on top of cupboards.
The Dogmother
I have a friend who is very house proud, she must think we live in a hovel when she visits us; her place looks like no-one lives there at all.... mine? Well it has chewed dog toys, the hallway badly needs re-plastering and painting and I never have the time to do a deep clean... do we care though? chuckmum6
My MIL regularly cleans the inside of her loft hatch , bless her she is OCD and goodness knows what she thinks of my cleaning or lack of it! I find cleaning boring and have many much more interesting things to do, I do what is necessary.

That's the difference between a house and a home, DM. I know which I'd rather live in. My house sounds very similar to yours, complete with tennis balls in various states of destruction littered around the hall and living room and muddy splats up the walls where the dog has come in from a wet walk and shook herself. I keep meaning to get round to trying to wipe them off. Repainting is right off the agenda for now!

I find cleaning boring and have many much more interesting things to do, I do what is necessary. I don't go as far as cleaning the loft hatch but we have nothing in the loft apart from the water tanks and power shower unit as we don't like a cluttered loft I am also one of those people that hate dirty ovens. I am always covering up anything I can when I use the oven so that it keeps clean and if I am only using one shelf then I take the other one out so that it doesn't get any grease on it. When my son and his family were living with us for a while it was awful as they kept putting things like sausages and steaks in the oven and I was constantly cleaning it
The Dogmother
.... but that's what ovens are for, surely? I wipe mine down after I've used it but that's as far as it goes.
Goosey Lucy
I also like to think that we live in a home not a house. Yes it's a bit cluttered but it's not dirty, at least not the bits I can see
The Dogmother
Looking around this morning, I seem to live 'with boxes'; the house has been an ongoing project since I moved in... work stops when I run out of money and I just move stuff around in boxes as I work on different rooms. That's why I don't have clutter, ornaments and stuff like that. Everything is mop-able, so easy to clean.
lillybettybabs
I've given up with cleaning our glass doors into the living room, kitchen and the conservatory as there is always animal nose and paw art on it! My mum is a clean freak and her house it far to clean and tidy - i dread her coming down as i know she'll comment on the tumble weed style rabbit fluff that blows through the house and the three layer animal art on the glass doors ( rabbit, cat then dog). The Dogmother
one of the reasons I don't have glass in the bottom of my doors there's enough dog snot on the back window of the car.
Lavenders_Blue
Plenty of nose art (dog, not human!) in this house too Back window of the car, french doors into garden, glass doors between living room and hall. I've given up trying to keep on top of it. They all get a periodic wipe down when we're likely to have people round. (Not the car).

Oh yeah the awful glass doors ugh. We have a glass paned door into our kitchen and also double glass paned doors from the dining room into the living room. Then we have 8ft of glass paned french doors from the living room into the conservatory and then another set of glass paned french doors into the garden. I am always going around wiping the bottom panes and it does my head in

Mercedes55
I'm not inviting any of you round to my house You know it never bothers me at all how other people live and if I visited someone whose house was tidy, untidy, clean or dirty, it would make no difference to me. It's who you are going to visit that counts, not how their house is kept. I'm just a bit too anal when it comes to housework and I wish I wasn't
Cinnamon
Nothing,NOTHING can be as bad as the house I went to visit with a view to buying a kitten from them a few years ago. It stank to the point where I nearly gagged, there were piles of cat poo on the carpet, everywhere was covered in a not so fine dusting of animal hair & you couldn't move for piles of rubbish, plates with half finished meals on them & animals. Needless to say I declined the offer of a coffee, went home & had a darn good hot bath It still makes me shudder to think about it.

bluekarin
Sounds like some of the houses my hubby visited when doing computer installs many years ago. One even was very green - they had used disposable nappies drying on the radiators
Willow
My house is getting better. It was a major renovation job and since we'd put all our money into buying it 10 yrs ago we've worked on it ourselves and stopped when we ran out of money (or had enough for a while). We now have almost all major work done and lots of storage whereas the original house had virtually none so last few months have been getting stuff sorted. I got a cleaner for 4 hrs a week two weeks ago and that is making more of a difference than I expected. Whenever I do housework I spend all my time tidying, bathrooms, kitchen and washing and it's fitted into available time after work, kids etc whereas the house is nice a quiet for her and she will clean shelves and light fittings etc Between us the house will be lovely by spring I might be inspired by this thread to tackle my larder cupboards in the kitchen tonight though... The Dogmother
I'd really love a cleaner Patricia, I love cleaning but like you end up doing it at silly o'clock in the evening.
