Looney
Yay! Apart from it appears I have been mistaken for a child It's the school Christmas fair today and they wanted entries for a bake-off which were to be judged on taste or decoration and had three age categories. They also asked for general donations of cake for the refreshment stall. My son entered some cake pops into the comp (he's 4 years old) with an entry form attached stating name, age and contact telephone number. I left a tin containing a cake for the refreshment stall. The tin had my name on it (it's a nice tin, I'd like it back!) but no entry form. I arrived at the fair to find my cake amongst the entries with a great big Key Stage 2 winners ticket on it! So it turns out that I bake a molasses ginger cake with lemon icing to at least primary school standard! Result! (I have confessed! )

Looney
No prize as yet! I'm hoping they've allocated mine to someone else (preferably a child!) but will find out next week! I was a bit cross really as the children weren't asked to say whether they wanted to be judged on taste or decoration so the assumption was they'd be judged on both. It turns out that not all the entries were tasted by the judges so there were a couple of upset kids. They could understand that they hadn't won the decoration prize but were questioning whether they might have won the taste comp if someone had actually bothered to try their entry. No one tried my son's cake pops, I knew how many he'd made....luckily he didn't! I doubt he would have won but it doesn't seem very fair! Oh well, I'll be taking these points with me to the next PTA meeting!

chickencam
Sounds like a lovely cake, would you mind posting the recipe please. Well done, I think that a key stage 2 cake victory sounds like it should go onto your CV immediately

Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations anyway, I'd have struggled to win in any category so I'm impressed .
Willow
I label my plastic boxes with the family surname so I have a chance of getting them back but even so I lose so many baking for others.
Looney
Thought I'd update... My son came out of school beaming from ear to ear the other day, in his hand a very nice 'My First Cookbook'! "I won a prize Mummy for my baking!" he said, pleased as punch! So, it appears 'my' prize has been allocated to him....I'm not going to let him know though I'll post the recipe in case anyone wants to give the ginger cake a go. Can't guarantee what it tastes like as I never actually got to try it!
