chickencam
I am looking at getting one for my OH for Christmas. He is looking at the Nokia Lumia 800 or 820. He will want to use it for emails and logging remotely into his office emails any suggestions or pitfalls to look out for? Doesn't want to spend a fortune because he can upgrade on his contract in about 9 months. he used his last upgrade to get a phone for ED to take to uni. Snowy
My son has the Nokia Lumia 800 - he loves it! Lovely feel to it and very sturdy. Great to use as well. I would have got one myself but preferred to stick to the iphone as I already have all the apps I need. The downside to the windows phone is less apps than apple or android. He does say he wishes he had waited for the Lumia 820 as the windows 8 looks amazing.
chickencam
Thanks, Windows 8 does look amazing but it is a lot more expensive too.
Snowy
Had another play on my sons phone last night as I've just got the iphone5 so we swapped phones! His is windows 7. I actually like it more than the apple format. If you have a favourite webpage (ie Omlet!) you can turn it into a tile so you don't have to go through the web browser to get to it. We also played with the phones - on the iphone you can just make calls, but on the Lumia he could put my call on hold, make another call and turn them into a conference call. The back button is also useful as with apple, you have to go out of one app to get into another (if you click a link in an email that takes you online say, you then have to close down the browser, and reopen your emails app to get back to your email, whereas with the lumia you just press 'back') Let me know if there is anything specific you want to know and I'll find out

The Dogmother
Whenever I'm pondering on a new gadget, I download the instruction manual and browse through that - you can usually decide within a few minutes whether it's something you'll get on with or not. chickencam
That's a good tip, thanks. I think by looking at reviews it will be the process of logging into his office outlook remotely that will cause the problems, because you need a security certificate. Does anyone know anything about these and how to get them?
Snowy
I would think that that would need to be done via his company IT department. It can be done but I wouldn't have a clue how to do it myself!
