Bought a second hand purple classic!!!

Recommended Posts

So busy day for me today.......and not all by choice!!! Won a second hand purple classic from a well known auction site yesterday, paid and arranged collection today!!! Well got a bit of a bad vibe as to be "helpful" I had to collect it from the husbands work place.

It smelt in the car all the 1hour journey home :vom: It was horridly dirty!!! Grubs mouldy with food stuck in the hook recesses, glugs also green tide water mark and mould. I am missing some bolts and fixings, so will order from omlet. I expected to disinfect it, but had to scrub everything before I could disinfect it with virkon :(:(

Well I think its ok, but can't use it until I get the fixings. So just debating about the whole feedback thing?? Not happy, who sells animal housing dirty??? If I could have I'd have bought new, like my cube , but they're SO much money!!!! Paid £245.00 for the classic with 3metre run and 2glugs &2 grubs......did I do ok??? Was thinking to sell the pink set of glug and grub and maybe a metre of run, so might get some money back.

Ok, it was dirty, which is a bit off, I would have jet washed it before selling. I would also always jet wash and disinfect ANY second hand coop I got, no matter how clean it looked. I would clean the grubs and glugs - stick them in the dishwasher. I think £245 is a fair price, mine was a little cheaper, but was only 2m, you probably will be able to sell it for a similar price you paid. You might want to check the fixings and make sure everything is sound, before commenting. Good luck with your new Eglu!

I got an eglu on a well known internet auction site too! I think yours was a good price - I paid more than that for mine a couple of months ago (red classic with 3 m run)! I know it's annoying, but it probably doesn't matter that it wasn't squeaky clean either, as you probably would have wanted to scrub it again when you got it home anyway (I did with mine, even though it was very clean). It is a bit of a shame about the missing bits and bobs though, but hopefully you can get those replaced from Omlet.

Thats a good deal

Perhaps things had got on top of them hence no chickens and a dirty coop?

I would leave generally positive feedback I think unless they are selling lots of outdoor stuff the information that it was dirty doesnt really benefit others as much as information about the transaction and ease of communication/collection

Well done with your eglu mimi! Did the seller have good feedback? You might just email them (through ebay if you like) and mention the missing bits. They might have them knocking about, and could post them on to you?

(You could ask before you leave feedback... )

Good luck with it, in any event. :D

No I'm affraid when I asked they said they had never had them! (me thinks it's 3rd hand to me!) Anyway have been on the omlet site and ordered all the missing bits!! Run bolts, lynch pin and square skirt x2 :D Oh and........a blue egg ramp just somehow slipped in to the basket........can't imagine how that happened!!:lol:

I can see why you were miffed because whilst you would expect it to be maybe a bit dirty this sounds like it was beyond filthy so that should have been properly explained in the listing it doesnt matter that you would be cleaning it anyway, as with the missing bits it should have also stated that. So if it the well known site im thinking of I would personally leave negative feedback or depending on how you feel neutral. Chances are if you were bidding against other people it may not have gone for so much. Ask yourself if the listing had stated parts missing and in need of a good clean would you have bid on it etc .....

Mind you when you have your bits it will be a lovely addition for your girlies

Thanks Jenny was thinking the same thing, just easier not to leave any. Yes, I know what you mean I guess we all have different standards??? But after some serious elbow grease it mostly come up pretty well :D:D When we have some better weather, I plan to jet wash both eglus. Treated myself to one in the spring (pressure washer) for that very job and haven't used it yet! What with the hosepipe ban (does anyone remember that?? ) then the rain!!!!! Now it's freezing.....so I'll wait for some nice spring weather!! :D:D

"Oh and........a blue egg ramp just somehow slipped in to the basket........can't imagine how that happened!!" :D

Think it must be a fault on the ordering site, one fell into my basket too, along with a qute!

I think it's a good price, but I think it's not on to sell something covered in so much mess, especially as the green tide marks come off so easily, so they didn't even try and clean it up

I would leave a neutral feedback personally. I once got a negative as a clean, freshly laundered T shirt had a stray cat hair on :( but I didn't claim to have a 'pet free home' so people can be quite harsh on there, so she lucky to have sold to you.

Does that mean your newbies are on their way? :D

Well not really all newbies........my 2 accidental babies Tilly & Polly will be going in to it from the wooden ark which is really too small and has no nestbox :( (really only good for qurrantine and broody hens with chicks! :D ) But....they will be joined by my new cockerel, Fergus!!! :D Hopefully next weekend :D:D Then once I feel happy doing gentle intros they will all join the girls in the cube!!!!

Long term plan.......to get some bantam araucanas for the purple classic :D Maybe if I'm brave enough I'll try hatching again........remembering boys.....maybe not :lol:

Personally I wouldn't leave any feedback. If you leave negative feedback then it can get quite nasty so not worth the bother. I still can't believe that if you sell somethng online you would not clean or wash it first. I would be grateful its only chicken poo as I got much worse buying a swimsuit that was alledgedly brand new!!!! There really are some very horrible people out there so thank goodness Omlet sell lovely houses that are easy to clean up. Personally I have got both my classic and cube on gumtree for silly prices and both have been in amazing condition when sold.

I've been looking for a while and NEVER see anything on gumtree at all!!! :( I tried for others on ebay too, but haven't won! So difficult when lots seem to be the other end of the country from me!!!! Anyway I'm sorted now and once I get the bits I've ordered it can get in to service!!!! :D
