Will I ever get any eggs again?UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Well I have 5 hens and havent seen an egg since October. My two older girls a Pekin Bantam and a Wyandotte Bantam were laying regularly til then. In August I got 3 new girls 10 weeks old. Another Pekin, another Wyandotte and a Polish Frizzle. Although their faces went red some time ago I havent had any signs of an egg and of course the other two decided to stop laying and moult. I suppose I will be waiting until Spring now! :(

I bought a buff and blue orpington and a buff sussex in October. The blue orp was 12 weeks and the other 2 were 24 weeks. I've only just started getting one egg from the buff sussex these past few days and she must be 9 months now!! I'm sure yours will start laying in the next few weeks as the days start getting longer. :-)

I have eight ladies and I was lucky if I got one egg a day up until recently. For the first time in 2 1/2 years I had to buy a dozen eggs at Christmas. I was going to buy them in Tesco and stood there holding them for a few moments, an assistant asked me if I needed help. but I couldn't bring myself to buy them there. I was lucky as when I got home my bee man/farmer had some. Two days ago I got four eggs. I think now the nights are getting lighter we will see more eggs. :D

I often find that if I buy a big box of eggs then that s*ds law comes into effect and mine all lay as if by magic ! Having said that its not working for my mum who has had to start buying hers dads not amused because although she is buying a brand called 'posh eggs' they are nothing like their own :-( Lets hope we all get some eggs soon, maybe I will do my own egg dance in the garden :-) (neigbours probably will get me sectioned though)

Some of mine have been back in lay since new year's day. Reading your post I'd ask 3 things; how old is this hen? When was she last wormed with Flubenvet? What are you feeding her?

She may well just be taking her time to come back into lay, but otherwise the answers to those questions may well help solve any issues.

It's not just one hen Dogmother - it's all 5 of mine. There are three young ones who were 10 weeks old when i got them in late August and none of whom have ever laid yet. The other 2 are a couple of years old and did exactly the same last year. The were all wormed with Flubenvet in October. I feed them on layers pellets with occasional treats of broccoli, sweetcorn and cabbage!
