Chortle Chook
I have rosacea and I after research on the net and reading up on a very useful American website it seems that I need to use a total sun block with both UVA and UVB blockers. It seems this needs to be used every single day even in our cloudy winter conditions. However it does need to be very gentle i.e. should not have alcohol, witch hazel or menthol Sadly the Rosacea site iteslf won't recommend any specific brands because of advertising limits so, naturally, I thought of the Omlet forum Does anyone out there with small children have a product they can recommend? I know that sometimes the most bog standard products are the best.
WitchHazel
I have rosacea too. My GP prescribed Tetralysl (sp?), which is an anti biotic oftern prescribed for acne. I have to take it every day, and that has made a massive difference. Regarding products, I've tried Liz Earle's stuff, her website has a secton on which of her products are useful for rosacea sufferers, but they aggravated my skin and don't contain any SPF (at least it doesn't say it does). I have had some success with a set of products called Synchrorose. I found their website a bit overwhelming at first, and it took me a while to work out which of their products to use. This is an overview of what they say about their products Here is an overview of their products http://www.skinmed.co.uk/rosacea-treatment/ This is a link to their Rosacea leaflet, outlining all their products http://www.skinmed.co.uk/uk/synchrorose.pdf I use their Synchrorose Remover, if I need to (I don't use it every day, I probably should. If I wore makeup I would). I then use the Synchrorose Fast, followed by their moisturiser which is called Synchrorose Intensive. The moisturiser contains an SPF 15 sunscreen. This link is for the three product set, which are sold "at a discount" if you buy them as a trio rather than individually. P&P is on top of this. http://www.skinmed.co.uk/uk/rose3prod.html If you you don't want the cleanser (so you just wanted the FAST and INTENSIVE, you can see that option further down the products page, it's called the "Active Duo" pack They do separate cleanser and toner which can be used instead of the Remover. And they do a sort of foundation. I haven't used any of these products so I can't comment on them. I am in no way connected with Skinmed or Synchrorose, I just use their products. Hope that helps a bit.
Geoid
This has both UVB and UVA protection.
kinsk
My Dad is on medication which makes his skin photosensitive. I found this http://www.garnier.co.uk/_en/_gb/our_products/product-struct.aspx?tpcode=OUR_PRODUCTS^PRD_SUNCARE^AMBRE_SOLAIRE^AMBRE_SOLAIRE_DISCOVER^AMBRE_SENSITIVE^AMBRE_SENSITIVE_RTN1&prdcode=P30057 Asda stock it, it's specifically for sun sensitive skin and protects against UVA and UVB
UKMARCH
Hi, don't have experience of rosacea but have two very pale daughters so have to use high spec sunscreen on them and myself. One has sensitives to chemical sunscreens which are usually the high factor or sunblock types but we have had success with Lavera sunscreens on her which do not cause any irritation. Mineral sunscreens usually sit on the skin so do not soak in like the others so sometimes leave a sheen.
Grandmashazzie
Not sure of the full list of ingredients ie have stuff which may be alcohol based but there is L'Oreal Active or Uvistat they are available on prescription if you have a medical condition, but prob cheaper to buy if you pay for scripts(free here in N Ireland)and sometimes can be on offer in Boots 3 for
Chortle Chook
Thank you everyone WitchHazel you have been very kind in giving me those links. I have tried 2 different antibiotics prescribed through the doctor and both did work well but neither are a cure, just a management through providing anti-inflammatories. As I'd rather not be on antibiotics all the time and don't really like going to our practice (the reception staff are abrupt and caustic and I've begun to dread them ) I would rather find my own management if I can. I think I'll probably give the Garnier a go as someone else I know is using that.
Lavenders_Blue
Have a look at Green People skin care. They have a range of products suitable for rosacea including a SPF 15 day cream and 2 different sun screens. All with UVA/UVB protection. Chortle Chook
Oh these look brilliant I've bought the sun screen, the day cream and the make up remover. Here's hoping they help, even a little I'm really chuffed to be actually doing something positive about it as it has been really getting me down ever since I had to have my driving licence renewed and the photo made it all too clear what had happened to me in the last 10 years
mollyripkim
Would it be worth topping up your vitamin D as you won't get enough sunlight to make it with sunblock on, apparently most people don't get enough through diet alone. I read somewhere that half the population are deficient. I have to see a rheumatologist more regularly than I would like and he insists I take it daily. redhotchick
I use the Garnier one too, http://www.boots.com/en/Garnier-Ambre-Solaire-UV-Sensitive-Cream-SPF50-75ml_23387/ The Boots Soltan range has excellent UVA and UVB protection, the highest levels I think. Like this one, http://www.boots.com/en/Soltan-Face-Moisturising-Suncare-Cream-SPF50-50ml_1207078/
Lavenders_Blue
Fingers crossed you get on okay with the new products! I use Green People sunscreen in summer and reckon it's about the best natural sunscreen out there. I've used a lot of the mineral sunscreens in the past and they work fine, but as someone posted above, they do leave a rather ghostly white sheen on your skin! The Green People lotion doesn't do that, but still offers good protection from the sun. I should know - I only have to think about going outside in the summer and I burn! merlina
I have very reactive/allergic skin and have found the Lancaster sun care range doesn't upset my skin (strange, as their ordinary skincare does) I've been using Decleor spf 50 on my face. It's not perfect, but the best compromise I've found (I don't use Garnier etc for ethical reasons) Generally a physical (ie titanium) sunscreen won't upset skin, but chemical ones are more tricky. The physical ones, of course, leave that ghostly white sheen - not so good if you don't want a goth look I've also developed rosacea (horrible - after 40 years of impossibly greasy skin I have dry scaley patches!). Having tried all my usual brands with only limited success, I've been using Neal's Yard soothing starflower daily moisturiser for a week and it's looking very very promising indeed (even if it does smell a bit 'stale', even though it isn't)- One last thought - you can often pick up small tubes of skin/sun care pretty cheaply on ebay to try out (just double check the expiry date with the seller before you bid if they haven't given this)

That sounds like a good idea though with the weather of the last 6 months I'm honestly not surprised if 50% of the population are deficient in vitamin D. I so miss the sun (throws herself on the floor and screams like a smallest )
redhotchick
I've ordered a few trial size items from the Green People. Looking forward to trying these products.
