redhotchick
Valentines Day on Thursday and I've told my OH I'll make him a special meal. I haven't got the time or the energy this week to do anything too elaborate. I'm thinking scallops and asparagus to start and noisettes of lamb with some steamed veg, followed by a shop bought chocolate sponge. Then I see Marks and Spencer have a special dine in that would do perfectly! If I can get the things I want. http://www.marksandspencer.com/Weekends-In-Offers-In-Store-MS-Foodhall-Food-Wine/b/198933031 I'm still inclined to cook something myself. Guess I'll see what I can get. I wondered if anyone else is cooking a special meal?

SylvisMum
We will make ourselves scarce, my husband and I and go out somewhere for a meal, so that him upstairs (our son) can cook a meal for his girlfriend.
majorbloodnock
My wife and I reckon that if we need to do something special on Feb 14th, we haven't been paying enough attention for the other 364.....
bluekarin
My hubby and I had the Valentines meal last year from M&S and it was really good. We had scallops in the shells with the mashed potato on top, can't remember the main or pud, but the starter was yum. As was the wine I don't think you should be made to feel bad because you want to celebrate. I don't think anyone can say they make the most of each day together, so if you have one day where you both make an effort to spend quality time together then do so. You don't have to pander to the commercialism of it all to enjoy a lovely meal together. Enjoy it, as we will

Very thoughtful of you, Hope you have an enjoyable night yourself. My wife and I reckon that if we need to do something special on Feb 14th, we haven't been paying enough attention for the other 364..... Oh regularly makes me delicious meals, thought I'd offer before he started planning something. I work longer hours than him, which is why It has to be something that I can do quite quickly. I know he likes scallops and they cook quickly, I'll see if I can get some tomorrow. I think they are just about still in season? Blukarin, if I can get the Coquille st Jacque from M&S that would be my number one choice, and the rack of lamb probably. Fingers crossed! Sorry; wasn't meant to sound like a criticism of others; merely how we view Valentine's day. Type in haste, repent at leisure......

My sentiments exactly Major So no need to justify yourself later on as far as I'm concerned
kinsk
I suppose it's just like you shouldn't have to rely on Weddings, Christenings and funerals to get the family together but life just gets in the way. I had a great plan of going to the fishmongers on the way to work in the morning to get some lovely prawns and just do a huge bowl of garlic prawns and some decent bread to mop it up with, but I now have to leave early for work tomorrow so will miss the fishmongers so now I need another plan. Cinnamon
Not a fan of Valentines day, although I do enjoy all the pink in the shops! Waitrose meal deal for us,although we are having it tonight rather than Thursday. I think its a bit better than the M&S one this year (I know I am biased!) The pink wine Esprit de Buganany is in the deal, & it is scrumptious,& usually over £10 a bottle I think.
bluekarin
I have to agree Sarah, the Waitrose offer is much better (assuming I can get the things I'd like tomorrow). Just totted up and it's £32.44 for £20! Stuck what to choose for a starter though
soapdragon
Good heavens, completely forgot! Poor addled motherbrain can't cope with Pancake Day and Valentines Day in the same week! Could, I suppose, have combined the two and have had strawberry (ie; pink) pancakes tonight and got it all over with in one go Taking the boys to the 'opioticians' tomorrow so may try and dash into Waitrose and grab something! Eeek!
Cinnamon
Starters: both the mussels & melty cheese are divine . I was going to get one today, but there were no nice mains left! So much for employees perks!
clucker1
Or Ocado is cheaper, although you don't get wine and chocs, just one or the other, but it is the waitrose food, 2 for £15. Looking forward to ours at the weekend.
