Chortle Chook
I've been dying to know . . . How does a mod become a mod? . . . and then how do you stop being one? What are the responsibilities? I mean do you all trawl all the areas or do you each look after particular things? Do mods have any perks? If not you jolly well ought to (It is not that I want to be a mod as I know I'd not have the time at the mo, but may be one day when I retire Till then I'm just a nosy parker )
soapdragon
I always thought it was something to do with riding round Brighton on a moped wearing a coat with a Union Jack on it but thenI am a little out of touch!
sjp
if it's anything like becoming a Secretary or chair of an allotment committe then they didn't duck quick enough the grief they get is more than likely the same to. the only the perk they get is our eternal thanks for a job well done
Cinnamon
From personal experience, the current mod team think of people who they think they can work well with, are diplomatic & are online a fair bit, then ask them. When we retire, we just stand down......no drama. It is a thankless & time consuming job, with lots of discussion about things normal forum users wouldn't even consider being discussed. You would be amazed at the amount of stuff that gets headed off at the pass before the forum users get to see it. It is fun though & I remember my years as a mod with very great affection, mostly because of the people I worked with, who I now consider friends
Christian
As Cinnamon says, the current mod team come up with a list of names (usually a very long list ) and then we all vote. We don't have set sections that we mod. It is just a case of spotting things when we are on line. That is why it is helpful if members use the report function, rather than pming a mod directly - the pm might not be seen for a while, but all mods can see the if the 'Report' button has been pressed and then action it. Perks?? Erm, no. If anything, being a mod can sometimes distract from the enjoyment of the forum. Sometimes you just want to sit with a cuppa and read through posts and you end up doing a spot of hoovering, dusting and general cleaning up. Having said that, I do enjoy it, even though it takes up so much time.
