Coolbag dilemma

Recommended Posts

We go out with a picnic bag a lot, once or twice a week, and I've been using a horrid orange shopper for two years. It is not stable so can fall all over in the back of the car, and will not stand up on it's own. I need something at least the depth of a flask so it needs to be 14 inches high, 14 inches wide and 8 inches deep. It does not need any pockets, a lid would be good though! I've been looking at the Gelert cool bags, and there is one which is 12.5 litres in volume but I can't find dimensions anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas what could fit the bill?

If anyone has a 12.5 l Gelert coolbag, I'd appreciate the dimensions!

There's this one on Go Outdoors, but seems to be collect only. It's 20 litres!

I've got a soft one like the first link I posted that I bought a few years ago from Tesco. It's not tall enough to put a full size flask in, but can fit a fair few sarnies & packets of crisps, cartons of drink etc. Very handy for camping & days out & folds down quite flat with Velcro straps to hold it closed, when not in use.

Oh, PurpleTree, you read my mind! I was watching one of those on ebay, but it sold out before I got around to working out if it was suitable or not. I think that particular style would be great, not really in need of the cool bag option, more a smart picnic bag, so I really don't mind if it doesn't do up!

Will investigate that one further...

We have one soft coolbag and one rigid chillbox, we sue them for different things although they are roughly the same size in use; the soft one is used for picnics and to carry our cold food when we go away in the UK. The rigid one is easier to clean and we use it to hold the frozen dog meat and bones when travelling on UK holidays - any leakages can easily be cleaned up.

I'd be wary of getting anything too large as it will be heavy when full.

Ooh, Lakeland 8)

Actually, we are off to the Forest of Dean tomorrow so a bit late to buy a new bag now. I will keep my eyes peeled if we go near any shops, but will have a look at the Lakeland site anyway, a look doesn't cost anything...right?

Hide the credit card before you go onto the Lakeland site
