Possible stomach ulcer due to meds

Recommended Posts

My ED is 15 and has been on various meds for about 4 years now for a chronic pain condition. Unfortunately, one of the meds was Diclofenac and has caused possible stomach ulcers. She is due to see her consultant next week and was taken off the med by her GP about two weeks ago and put on a different stomach protecting drug (she was taking Zantac). I have just been looking up what foods she should avoid and eat to help heal her stomach lining - seems she has been having things that aren't helping, like milk and peppermint tea! I have found out she needs to eat Vit K rich foods, drink chamomile tea, avoid milk and oj and anything spicy. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what to eat to help matters or even other foods to avoid? Thank you :)

Thank you for your comments. I have put her on a bland diet which she is not loving at all as she is rather partial to chilli. She is also having Yakult and Complan.

We have seen her hospital consultant today who is organising an endoscopy and has upped her Omeprezole dose. She had a blood test too just to see what's happening. I am really not looking forward to the procedure, even though its her having it done :( Wish they could just ultrasound scan her to what is wrong.

I am prone to stomac ulcers because I have a hiatus hernia, so I have been through the whole thing. Endoscopies are not nice but at least, the consultant will know exactly what the matter is and will hopefully be able to help. The bland diet helps so do natural yoghurts and some herbal teas (check the ones that "help digestion"). Keeping a food diary was very useful too - after a bit of trial and error I knew exactly which foods I could take, which ones were a big no-no and which ones actually helped the condition (and I guess this may vary from person to person).

She hasn't been checked for any of those things yet because as far as we know this has happened from long term medication use. I am sure once she has the endoscopy then things will be a bit clearer .......... I hope :anxious:

Edit to add I am making her drink chamomile tea not peppermint which I was surprised about as I thought that was good for indigestion. She is also having Yakult (not sure if already said). She has yoghurt to take her meds so does have a fair amount during the day but she hates the stuff. She is avoiding milk, spicy, citrus, tomatoes, as they make her stomach more painful. I don't think she needs to do the food diary route yet as basically she isn't eating a lot and I know what I prepare for her as she can't do it herself.
