Luvachicken
Yesterday I saw Lucie looking at a magpie - or so I thought - until today. With her head on one side kind of looking. Then today, a few times her head seemed to wobble, kind of from her neck, a bit like a dance It was very odd. She has been eating and drinking and doing chickeny things - she doesn't appear to be ill, but strangely, when the 2 grumpy broodies were allowed back in to the cube at about 8.30pm Lucie went to bed too. They had all been going to bed about 9.10pm. My mum seemed to think she could have something stuck in her crop and I thought maybe she had something stuck up her beak - like dust. Does anyone know what could be wrong with her ? Edited July 10, 2013 by Guest
sandyhas3chucks
what is her crop like? full? empty? sounds like sour crop neck movement, but you should easily tell if it were that...
Luvachicken
I will have a feel of her crop tomorrow when I get in from work, she only did it a couple of times today which I guess is better, I'll see how we get on.
Luvachicken
I typed in the search bit for sour crop and have found a 'sticky' all about it. I will get her some probiotic yogurt tomorrow and try and give her a massage to sort her out. I thought a wobbly head might be a sympton of something but thought it was to do with her brain I didn't realise sour crop could be quite so serious. I just hope I can find the 'sticky' again. Luvachicken
When I got in from work today, Hubby said she had been doing the neck dance quite a lot. So I panicked a bit and phoned the vets for an appointment instead of poking her about my self. He looked her all over and felt her crop which he said certainly didn't feel like sour crop so that was a big relief. He apologised for not knowing what was wrong with her but gave her some Baytril to be on the safe side, and I said that at least he told me she didn't have what I thought she had. I had already bought her some yoghurt but all I could find was Activia with Bifidus Actiregularis in it. I hunted everywhere for a probiotic yoghurt but couldn't find any - what yoghurt should I be looking for for next time ?
good_egg
I think it's just live yoghurt you need... Most natural yogurts are live - check the label. Hope your chook behaves herself and no more dancing.
Luvachicken
Well after 2 weeks the head wobble is almost non existent. A friend suggested she could have had an ear infection. I don't know what she had but I'm glad she seems to be on the mend
