So the fluid in her lungs seems to have died down but shes skin and bones and bare stands up she will still eat but everything has to be crumbs and shes not eating much has runny poo etc what can i feed her that will help her put her weight back on i think if i can get her weight back up she could pull round! One of my girls came back from the vets with a 'herbivore mix' and a large syringe and long tube which was inserted down into the crop and 'force' fed. If she's eating on her own I would suggest protein like scrambled egg or fish based cat food or tuna in spring water. Why's she getting fluid on her lungs? I've given my pekins quial food to help them put on weight after a bout of illness (infact I still sprinkle a little over their pellet porridge every morning ) Tinned phillchards in tomato I was advised by the Dogmother for one of mine after 3 moults last year. I always find that they can eat a lot more feed that way, and helps to make sure she is hydrated too. You can then mix in whatever her favorite food is (mealworms, tomato etc) to encourage her to eat it too. Is she with other hens? If so, then maybe separate her with a bowl of her own so the others don't scoff the lot before she gets chance! Good luck, I hope she gets well soon . Thank you for your advice i really appreciate any help ive been to the the vets 3 times ow two different vets farm and pet and no joy other than baytril for respritory infection which is why she had fluid on the lungs, she also had mites ut ive absaloutly bathed her in diatom so shes nice and clean shes newly homed and just at pol little white pekin beautiful i mighthave to forse feed her as she doesnt seem interested at all today ive tried mash pellets meal worms scrambled eggs cheese hentastic treats and tonic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

She is obviously very poorly and her lack of interest in food is natures message, I am sorry to say. Chickens hid illness very well usually, but when they stop thriving like this I doubt there is a positive outcome - obviously I hope I am wrong, but I have seen this happen too often in hens. I have had girls that I have been determined to save but once they stop eating they tend not to get better. You have done everything you can for her and its been a horrible start to chicken keeping for you but maybe it is time to let her go.
