walk in run construction advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well after having my girls since May, my husband has agreed with me that they need a secure covered walk in run. We've got an area of 4.2m x3m ready (they have their normal run here which is outside along with the eglu and run). We've been looking online for the best prices for the wood, slabs and mesh. My big question is what's the best mesh to use? It needs to be very hardy as the girls will have this area while we are at work, where at the moment they are in the omlet run. Is the stuff on a roll ok? Not traditional chicken wire but the galvanished stuff that has the square holes. We priced it all including the roof and it's over £600! That's way out of our price range. Just wondering if anyone has top tips they can offer or retailers that are cheaper (the £600 is b and q prices). Hope some of this makes sense! Thanks everyone :D

Hi

Try www.Meshdirect.co.uk they were the cheapest place I found

I used the 25mm x 25mm x 16g chicken wire for my walk in run but welded mesh is 3 times more expensive than chicken wire

The choice is yours for which one you use as there is pros and cons for both

We've just built a WIR in our garden, doing it ourselves, and I'd say the cost was about the same as what you've quoted.

We bought our weldmesh on a roll from Hills of Devon. You won't find it cheaper anywhere else. All the wood came from AVS fencing, but any local timber merchant ought to give you a better price than a DIY store, and we bought the Perspex roof panels from Roofing Superstore. if you decide to buy panels from them, it's worth pointing out that there's a price break at 10 Perspex panels. We needed 9 for our run but the price drops by over half for 10+ so we have a spare sitting in the garage. Useful to keep in reserve I guess! I hope that's helpful and good luck building your WIR.
