ZoPekin
Hi all... I rehomed 6 chickens last week, 3 Araucana 1 Maran x and 2 sussex x. I had 2 eggs at the beginning of the week (one from the maran x and one from the sussex x ) But I was wondering when they might start laying regularly? I have only bought up chicks from 4 weeks and they r laying now but thought as these are older (I was told between 6-12months) they would be laying more. They r eating and drinking, I use ACV in the water and they free range in the day with my other hens.... Im just hoping they r happy in there new home x
Chickabee
Were they definitely all laying before you got them. Have they been wormed and de liced? It might just be that they're a little disrupted and need to get back into the swing of things. Plus the weathers just changed.

sjp
if they were laying before you got them then the move could have upset them give them a dew days and they might start again if they are 12+ months then they could have stopped laying to moult in which case they might not lay again until spring if they are 6 months old and haven't yet started to lay and haven't laid by the end of the month then there's every chance the won't lay this side of Christmas has the days are to short and they don't start to lengthen until about the 24th of December depending on what part of the UK you live in I've got a 6month old pullet that I doubt will lay this year she's crouched a couple of times but her head gear is still pink they aren't laying under a bush or behind a shed are they if you've only had them a week and they've started to free range all ready they might not have learnt were home is yet
ZoPekin
Thank you for the replys... Yes i do let them out for a couple of hours in the afternoon so will check bushes etc... I might keep them in the coop for a few days so they get used to there new home. Will all theses breeds stop laying though the winter? My pekins and bluebells are still laying atm and dont seem to be slowing down yet... I am in Hampshire so yes days are defo getting shorter xx
Chickabee
I found that my pullets laid through their first winter. Last year I had to buy eggs though
mimi5
Pure breeds don't lay through the winter. Young pullets may start as early as feb though I apprently still have one of my last spring pekin hatchlings laying, but the rest are moulting. Well the need a rest.....what with all the broody behaviour throughout the summer!!
