Ain't Nobody Here
I bought a CD player from Amazon costing £150 for OH's 50th in February. He was really pleased with it and it worked brilliantly until last month when it stopped switching off. Sent it to LG and it was repaired and returned. Within a week it stopped working altogether so it was sent back again. Now they're saying it's uneconomical to repair and I have a letter saying so, which I have to send to Amazon (along with the player). The problem is that Amazon don't stock it any more. Can I ask them to give me the next equivalent model (which costs £50 more)? Or do I have to accept a refund to the original value? This has caused a lot of inconvenience, waiting in for couriers and phoning LG numerous times.
Eggasperated
Technically, according to the sale of goods act, with an item that is over 6 months old it is up to you to prove that the item is faulty due to a manufacturing fault and not something that has been caused by you. However, under the warranty it may say something different so it is worth looking at that. I have found Amazon to be very good about replacing things so it is always worth asking. Ain't Nobody Here
As it randomly started behaving strangely with us having done nothing different, it must have been a manufacturing fault. Also, they replaced the whole control panel thingy the first time which implies the same, I'd have thought. It's all such a hassle and a shame when it was a surprise present for OH . Geoid
You are entitled to a full refund, you could ask amazon for the next model up, they might say yes! As a gesture of goodwill etc.
Eggasperated
Sorry, I don't think I made it clear, the need to prove fault would normally only arise if the retailer refused a refund and you had to go to court. However I doubt that Amazon would query refunding you and as Fred said it is worth asking about the next model up.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks . I'll wait for the CD player to arrive (hopefully they won't expect me to wait in to sign for it ) then will contact Amazon.
