The National Poultry Show

Recommended Posts

I'm going too.

Been studying the Awfuls and Fraggle & Sprocket today but alas I think the guys at work doing Movember have better whiskers than them. :o The Japs have all decided to she'd some tail feathers. I've got no big girl eggs whatsoever. Still got an egg to paint. Touch wood Mr Fidget is looking mighty handsome and will stay that way for another 2 weeks.

I've often wondered, where do the chickens overnight when there is a show? I always remember coming down to breakfast in a wee Pension one day in France to find the whole breakfast rooom crowded out with cat cages for a show and I've somehow thought Coventry hotels at National time would be like that - only a bit noisier

Most shows are just one day so the hens don't overnight away

For the big shows if people are travelling they sometimes have a choice to place the bird in it's show pen the night before the show. Where they don't want to or aren't allowed to then the birds stay in boxes in the car overnight, it's chilly but at least it's draft free. The noise in the hotel car parks in the morning sure wakes you up!

Once the bird is in it's show pen it stays there for the duration of the show including any nights

They get quite accustomed to the life very quickly, I have been away for nearly four days before meaning the birds spent two nights boxed in the car and one in a cage, they always stay calm. A good showperson will do practice sessions so the show isn't the first time a bird has been boxed or caged

Mine always get a break after a long show apart from in January where there are three on the trot - that's hard work for me and the birds but most show birds are in optimum condition by January

I do know many a chook that's been snuck in to a hotel room before though especially tiny breeds that don't cope with the cold very well

Hello, show results are in for me & Miller30

Fidget = nowt (silly me put him in the wrong class, misread P'lain as plain instead of porcelain) :wall:

Awfuls = 1st as a pair SF LF females

Japs = Also rans as their legs are too long.

Eggs = nowt

Photos of Persil & brood in crisp box = 3rd, chick in hand = nothing

Leanne's little lavender frizzle lad got 3rd behind 2 that were older and more filled out. ( Took pics Leanne so you can see, didn't find the poots so will have to seek them out tomorrow)

Redwing did well but she'll be along to tell you soon.

Well done Daxigirl and Leanne  Extra  for the lavender Frizzle and for the Awfuls (clearly not so awful) and for the photographer who took Persil in the crisp box. Now where is that photo?

Had to laugh at P'lain not being 'plain' but 'porcelain' I'd have made that mistake for sure but can't help liking the idea of a class for plain girls :lol:

Completely missed this thread before the event

Lovely weekend as usual.....friends, chooks, friends, chooks & friends.....perfect! :D ....met Daxigirl at Miller30's little chap's showcage, she was being an excellent carer Leanne! Saw a few Omleteers & missed others as usual :(

2 hours journey? I wish :? ....had hideous journeys in both directions, on the way I should have been at J10 M40 at 4pm, drove on by at 7pm  ......but would repeat it all again tomorrow
