LottyJ1
Hi All, Any Idea on what breed this is? She is bantam size but we re-homed her after the owners left her at the hen hotel we use after moving house so have no idea. Just wondering if she is taking a break from laying due to her breeding or if i should be worried. She laid a softy last week and nothing since? The Dogmother
Lovely colouring, she looks like the Cotswold Jasmine. Other suppliers might have a different name for that hybrid.
LottyJ1
Thanks Dogmother. So if she is a hybrid she shouldn't have a winter break in laying? She is really quite small compared to my plymouth rock and has a cute little rose comb.
The Dogmother
It depends; if she was hatched before the longest day, then she will probably not have a break from laying. If she is older, then she will lay less over the winter. I would worm her with Flubenvet and treat for lice anyhow. Sorry, I missed the bit about her being bantam sized... the jasmines are slightly smaller, but not that small, they have similar colouring though.... some are lighter than others. LottyJ1
Thanks for your advice- I will worm to be safe. I have no idea how old she is let alone when she was hatched. Thanks again!

redsunset
Have no idea either but wouldn't care as she is so pretty to look at......
MillyJude
She looks alot like our little amber star, she was not a bantum but she was a very small hen. She was an ex-commercial layer, so I think they must be high laying hybrids.
hilda-and-evadne
Fenton Blue? http://www.fentonpoultry.co.uk/fenton_blue.htm
Chickabee
Would have thought a legbar cross would be bigger than bantam size ?
Egluntyne
She is probably a mongrel, with a bit of bantam of some sort in the mix.
LottyJ1
Thanks all for your comments - yep defo not as posh as a Fenton Blue or legbar! I will keep and eye on her and worm. She is a lovely little hen who chats away to me and follows me round. Also despite her small stature she is in charge!
Redwing
Definitely not any type of commercial bred hybrid due to the Rose comb Rose combs are dominant genetically so I would imagine she is a Wyandotte cross (perhaps partridge Wyandotte...) I would say the other half of the cross would be something like a Sussex looking at the legs
Chickabee
Just found this on internet. It's a bantum Blue Partridge Wyndotte. Well done redwing. I recently saw one of these in a magazine and was taken with how pretty it was. You jogged my memory
LottyJ1
Thanks Redwing and Sonyascott. She could defo be a Wyandotte cross with her cute rose comb.
