Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I do love my malts and, as those of you who have met me may well testify I am not a 'girly;....I never wear a skirt, laugh in the face of pink and at the thought of make up !! OH bought me some English whiskey for Christmas made in Norfolk (He went to the distillery whilst on the road for work!)

 

Its very peaty and light, can only liken it to Bowmore in terms of Scottish malts but is slightly lighter in flavour and really nice and the only whiskey produced in England (allegedly!)

 

Any other whiskey fans out there who have tried this? Dangerously drinkable! Apparently they do a peaty and non peaty and this is really smokey but very pale in colour, which is a bit odd given the flavour of embers!

 

OH brought some Japanese whiskey back from a business trip there a couple of years ago and that was.....odd! You could tell what it was trying to be but it just didn't quite make it!!

 

My favourites are Lagavulin and Laphroig (sp?) for after dinners but Bowmore and Highland Park for general consumption! The year before ES was born we had a great 2 weeks touring the beautiful Highlands taking in the amazing scenery and history and a few distilleries too!

I bought my Dad some English whiskey a couple of years who for Father's Day, so I assume it must be the same stuff. I don't drink whiskey myself, but my Dad loves it. However he has never reported back on the English whiskey, so I don't know if this means he thought it was good or bad... Or he just hasn't tried it yet?!

I guess you know more about this than me, Blackrocksrock, but I thought whisky is Scottish and whiskey is Irish? So what's the protocol when you're talking about English whisk(e)y? (By the way my iPad autocorrected to whiskey with an 'e', so that's my excuse ).

I've visited the English Whisky Company in Norfolk. Very friendly people who decided to stop sending their grain to Scotland and to see what they could do themselve.

 

I don't drink spirits so can't join in any conversation about which is best!

Got to agree with Sparkysmum - Glayva is a very nice whisky liqueur. Haven't had one in ages though! Note to self must check if Mum has any when I next visit!!!!!

Yes Whisky is Scottish and I am sure with an e is Irish - not sure what the English one is - my son works in a new distillery just opened this year called Wolfburn distillery up in Thurso at the northern tip of Scotland - he used to work at The Glenlivet Distillery before that!.

We always have whisky around but I am not a fan - liquer that is different and nicer and can drink that otherwise Brandy with ginger is my favourite!

My lucky chickens get the samples of Malted barley that are kept from each batch made - they get a handful each lunchtime each sweet malted barley and they love it.

The Husband & I treated ourselves to a nice bottle of Quater cask Laproiag just before Christmas - if you like peaty & smoky, that is VERY peaty & smoky!

I am not fussed if it is post stuff or not - haven't met many Whiskies I don't like

I love a Whiskey Mac this time of year too.

Cinnamon, Lagavulin is good and peaty too and Bowmore is fab...smokey/peaty but lighter than either Laphroig and Lagavulin!

Just looked at this site for OH's birthday, I was going to buy him a pack of 3 miniatures to try for £14.99, but they wanted £8 for delivery which is over half the cost of the product. These days if you have a largely online business you have to swallow delivery cost to an extent.

Found out today that Marks And Spencer sell English whisky from this distillery, it is a single malt that has been exclusively produced for them. I battled the wind and the rain and bought a bottle for £35 for OH for his birthday on Friday, hope he likes it. Seems to get decent reviews.
