Plum
A friend went on a hat making day with groupon and I was so impressed with her felt hat, we have booked a workshop. I'm aiming for the embarrassing mil look. Has anyone else tried millinery? It looks such fun all those feathers and bling
Daphne
I'm aiming for the embarrassing mil look. Not tried it as I am craftily challenged, but I imagine it would be great fun. I am still traumatised about 40 years later when my Mum used to wear a fake fur hat a la Dr Zhivago but I used to wish she would just look like everybody else, ie hatless
Eggasperated
My mum learnt hat making many moons ago, I think with a WI workshop. She made some spectacular creations which she wore proudly until at one wedding my (grown up) brother asked her why she had a spider on her head, I don't think she made any more after that. I actually felt rather sorry for her as she was rather good at it.
Plum
Aw I'm sure I'll get worse comments than that. Clip your brother round the ear and give her some encouragement I'm planning on slipping a couple of girls feathers into my creation
craftyhunnypie
Oooo make a top hat Plum! Or one of those mini Lady Gaga ones! Throw in some feathers, diamantes & big jewels... & I'll be wishing I was on the course too! Have a great time. Emma.x
Plum
Now that would embarrass my son at his wedding It's tempting though
Patricia W
There is a course in hat making at the WI Denman College. ( google Denman College craft courses) I met the tutor when I was there on another course last year and she said she'd taken it up as it was the only craft she could find that could make her self-sufficient. She now makes her living making hats and teaching others how to do it. A friend went on one of her courses ( not at Denman) and loved it. Plum
My two friends and their amazing creations and yours truly Flipping photobucket it used to be so easy to resize and save where you wanted I do apologise. Can anyone remember the size to resize to?
craftyhunnypie
Wow amazing creations. I love what you have made & would also love a go. However I haven't got a reason to ever wear a hat like that I'd get away with a bowler hat or top hat round here made of felt. But wearing a wedding hat is a fair few years off considering my niece & nephew are only 4 & 2 years old. I like how you have all chosen hats that suit you very well. Plum
Thanks, I wore it round the office at work this morning, looks lovely with my nurses uniform. I have my son's wedding in June (in Nottingham Koojie) so that's the main occasion, it matches my dress. I think I'll have to go to Ladies Day next year
