tinkkletoes
a few days ago I asked for help about a lethargic 2 year old hen that had sour crop ( I believed) I have sorted her sour crop and it looks like it hasn't come back as no large crop or heat in that area. but just in case I have been massaging the area twice a day. also it was mentioned that she might have mite problem, of which she has been fully dusted and I did have a good look and I couldn't see anything on her. But She is still very lethargic and doesn't move once given a nudge to leave to coop in the morning. only to find a quite spot to stay stock still, head down eyes closed. I have been giving her Nutri drops twice a day for 3 days. if I get behind her she does make a run for it, but not as fast as her normal speed. if I put a bowl of water in front of her. she will drink for quite a long time. but I can't get her to eat anything I put in front of her. pellets mixed with water to make a sort of soup, pro-biotic yogurt with a raw egg, rice mixed with mineral powder. I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas as I don't think she is quite ready to pass away as she's not giving me all the usual signs of a hen dying. the last two ladies I lost just stopped drinking, eating and passed away within 3 days. this one has been like this for about 2 weeks. I am ready for her to pass away. but she's still fighting on, so I don't want to give up on her if she wants to live.
Egluntyne
Has she been wormed?
tinkkletoes
I do put worming tablets in their food and I have worming liquid in their water ( verm-x). but I can't bee sure she's eaten any or drunk enough of the water recently. would worms make her like this ? never had worm problems before so don't know the symptoms ? off to make up a private dose of worming liquid in water to try . Egluntyne
I would worm her with Flubenvet as Vermex is not a licensed wormer, but more of a herbal cleanser.
hopingforchickens
She sounds a lot like my chicken who is having similar problems, she is worked on flubenvent but is still very lethargic after sour crop. If you have a break through I'd love to hear about it. Hope she makes a speedy recovery. X
Beantree
I never put additives in their water now as it discourages them from drinking and can lead to other problems, like impacted crop. Particularly important in warm weather that they drink enough when extra drinkers are provided as well.
