3 new ex bats

Recommended Posts

They are so different - poor little mites

They have been pecking through the run for food :( even though big bowl in run.

Also put up glug and grub up will be a while till they get used to eating properly.

Lemon Curd is the one will more loss of feathers but seems to be cleverest has work out glug :)

Other two a bit of squabbling :?

Could sit down and watch them all days. :D

Dogs are wondering who they are and want to meet them. They did't bother about Maisie and Daisy.

I will introduce them in a few weeks when chooks are acclimatised :D:D

It's a great thing you've done. I didn't get leg rings for mine, so no idea who's who. Normally just make up names for them on the day. Like hoppy, cutie, the list goes on.

Any chance of some piccies ? :D

What are you feeding them? It should really be mash. Mine used to guzzle it down, they couldn't get enough to eat. Gradually put them on pellets. Also put ACV in their water, which was always filthy, no matter how many times a day I changed it

They have all found the food and water  Got some food from collection of chooks .....looking how quickly they are eating  ...faster than my old chooks. will get some more and gradually change to pellets.

Leg rings mainly for GC they love the chickens. They will tell which ones which.

Someone :?: has laid an egg :D . no idea who? lol. previous chooks you could tell eggs apart (only 2 chooks though).

Happy days :D

Yes - we need piccies ! Now and in a few months time.

When I got mine, I was told they could go straight to ex-bat crumb (looks like small pellets)? They seemed to cope VERY well !

H

EDITED - should have been crumb not pellets - sorry.

I will try and put some pictures on. Now and in a few months :-)

Keeping close eye on them. Lemon Curd has the least feathers and smallest, but found the food & water first :)

Food I got from ex bats collection is mash will try and get some ex bats pellets. :D

BHWT recommend using Small holder natural free range layers crumble for ex commercial girls for the first few weeks.if you then want to change to Pellets then mix half and half ratio with pellets and then just keep adding more pellets. The ex battery mash is no Longer available as the traditional battery cages no longer exist and the hens coming out more recently were healthier and didn't need as much nutritional support

They went to bed far later tonight than my last 2. They make a right mess with food...lol

Watching them walk is funny....high steps holding foot up in the air for a few moments each step. Just getting used to walking again.

2 eggs today one in nesting box, one on grass near food.

At the moment Marmalade is the bossy chicken, a few flutters of wings with Marmite, lemon curd keeps out the way. It rain a little this afternoon they were trying to eat the raindrops. In the wind they looked as if what's that!

Not got much work done today....chicken watching :D:D

And the first time they had a proper dust bath....

All 5 of mine have dust bathed in the run in aubiose, but only 2 have realised they can just bath in the dried soil !

H

That will be interesting when mine figure out dust bathing :D

The funniest thing for me was when they first got rained on! they stood there looking skyward as if to say....what is that all about!!

They must wonder what these strange new things are....bless their cotton-socks :)

Mine stood trying to eat the rain yesterday :D

By the way gav....you do a great job with BHWT :clap:

Ah bless...thank you for those kind words.

My hubby deserves a big  I have new respect for him....he has the weakest tummy ever.....and I saw him crawling around the barn floor retrieving terrified hens on Saturday, and while they were waiting to be crated, he was stroking and comforting them....love him to death for that
