tinkkletoes
hi all. I have a lethargic rescue hen. had her now 10 months. a few weeks ago she got Sour crop. i got that sorted, she was still lethargic afterwards. i then used Net-x nutri drops which seemed to get her going. the whole flock is currently on layer pellets with flubervet she's now back to being very lethargic & eating & drinking very little. her dropping have been for a few days very yellow, watery with some very little dark droppings. it also smells pretty bad. i keep thinking this is it and she's no more then she shows signs of fighting for life. any ideas guys. Beantree
Still sounds like sour crop to me Tinkkletoes. How much is in her crop and has she bad breath? Is her crop very warm to the touch?
tinkkletoes
Her crop is not warm or enlarged, but if it is still sour crop, does anybody have any ideas as she's still putting up a fight for life, so im not giving up on her yet if she's not. i have tried only water for 2 days. and then yoghurt mixed into a little food & live meal-worms. I'm trying to worm with flubenvet. a little pinch in water as i can't get her to eat at the moment.
Beantree
I'm at a bit of a loss here Tinkkletoes. The smell says sour crop but the crop heat doesn't. Could be bad worms but the poo smell isn't right. Depends how long she has been on the wormer. The initial dose kills most of the worms and they are digested giving off toxins in the process. The result is a smelly slimy poo and a temporarily sick bird. But she would then eat shortly afterwards unless something else isn't right. You could try feeding her with balls of crushed and dampened pellets to try and revive her appetite? It may be some kind of digestive blockage with an infection? Just wild guessing here. We've recently lost two to mysterious digestive issues so I'm certainly no expert in this area. Not sure the vet will know what it is but you could try Baytril anyway. We had results with that in the past for no apparent reason. You've done everything as I would so far Tinkkletoes so good luck.
Egluntyne
I'd take her to the vet at this stage.
AlisonH
My girl sounds exactly the same. Had sour crop, thought she was ok again, had started to eat again , just pellets and poos gradually returned but quite a few also yellow and smelly. She's not really ill like she was but she's not right in herself. How's your girl now tinnkletoes ? Are you any further with a diagnosis?
